    "Free" 1/2 Persian Kittens- IL

I walked into work today to see a rather disturbing sign posted on the bulliten board. It reads,
    "FREE" Kittens
    1/2 Persian
    10 & 11 wks old
    call (847)224-4805

Apparently they're not really free, just "free".
If I had ANY money, I'd call and offer to personally pay for the spay and neuter of the parents. I hope they know why what has happened is wrong, and I hope they have fixed it. (and their cats)

My parents did the same stupid thing before I was born, my mom never got around to spaying her cat and my dad was too proud to neuter his Cornish Rex, so they had a litter (thankfully of only two kittens, one of which my grandma kept his whole life)

I also have an urge to get one, I've always wanted a Persian, but I really don't know how I'd pay for the neuter and I have no money for emergency vet care. I am allergic, but I have a longhaired cat right now who I've gotten used to. Normally I'd not even consider it because my mom and step-dad freak out when I mention the addition of any new animals, but I'm moving to my own appartment sometime before August 25th, the start of my term. I guess I just don't know what to do.

I hope they find good homes. With your upcoming move, it's probably not good timing for you - moves ALWAYS end up costing more than we think they will - but I hope everything goes well for the kittens and for you.

Sadly, some people seem to use quotation marks for emphasis, which is completely wrong, so the kitten may actually BE free.

I'm feeling really blond at the moment but I don't understand what this means. Free but not free? 'Splain, Lucy.

I hope that the kitties get good permanent homes. Take it from someone who moved w/a bunch of cats, it ain't easy. It's pretty stressful on them and, if you take in a newbie, you could open up a whole new can of worms. I'll bet these kittens will be placed quickly.

    SukiWingy,

I have a cat that is a product of cross breeding. He's a cross of Sphynx/Cornish Rex. I couldn't figure out where his patches of wavy fur were coming from He's very UNIQUE looking to say the least. But, the sweetest cat and a real talker.

Usually, in written English, when something is in quotes, it means it is not really "whatever" but is claiming to be.

Haha well at least I would assume they imply that no animal is truly free?

Still sucks that there are irresponsible owners out there, and I will admit it makes me SICK to see people in Walmart's parkinglot giving away "free puppies" or, worse yet, people trying to SELL "purebred" dogs at Walmart (yup, seen it happen...) but we can't let it get to us and just bottom line -- think of the animals. Whether it be to educate the ignorant human or do whatever it takes to help the animal, we always have to think of them first, hard as it is sometimes cause you just wanna grab the human and beat some sense into them...

Huh! Never heard of such a thing! That's just crazy! Honestly, the lengths that people will go to.

They're not free - because there is a cost to bringing unwanted kittens into the world, and for spaying/neutering (for kittens and parents) and shots, etc.
