Max has a brother *update* and now sisters too post#9 :)

    introducing Colin, my yellow betta
I got him from the fish shop where I bought Max (my red betta) a few months ago.
He is about 1 cm smaller than Max so I'm guessing he's very young.
His fins are a bit tatty, torn here and there, I hope he'll get better soon.

Here is a picture of him, just one at the moment,
I thought I'd better leave him alone and let him adjust to his new home

    thank you

    Rhi, Max is well.
He flares and darts from one side of the tank to the other when I let him see Colin. I don't need a mirror now to excersise Max, just let him see his brother for several minutes a day. A good exercise for them both to stretch their fins.

How about Ruddie, Rhi? is he getting a brother too?

I'm so pleased that Colin started making a bubblenest on the second day in his new home.

it's not well constructed yet, but hey, it's a start.

    this one is Max' bublenest.
He always have it by the thermostat now. I think it's his favourite spot.

I am glad Max is doing well, and Colin looks well on the way to being a very happy boy aswell . I bet they make a handsome pair of brothers.

LOL funny you should mention Rudi getting a new brother, i bought home a lovey mauve/ purple boy home from work today. He was way to pretty to put out to sell. I will post a few pics of him soon.

    Thanks everyone.

at the moment I don't think I have been bitten by the betta bug
I'm quite happy with these two boys.

But if I am going to get another one (I'm not saying I am ) it will hopefully a CrownTail or a HalfMoon but I will have to look for them online as my local fish shop only sell veiltails.

Here is a close up picture of Colin.
His body looks a bit bent because he was going the other way, nothing to worry about.
His fins are so much better now

    introducing my betta girls
Annette, how did you know I was going to get 4 more?

sorry the picture is a bit fuzzy but this is Kimmy, the queen of the tank
she chased the other 3 girls on the firs day, but now that everybody knows what their position is,
they all get along, no more flaring, thank God for that.

this is Pearl, rank-2 in the tank. She looks like Pearl in person, hence the name

can you spot my Mustard Gas (called M.G. for short) girl among the pebbles?

last but not least, although she is the smallest
my multicolour girl, Minnie, the only combtail I have
she has horizontal stripes on her body as she is very young

2 males and 4 females are enough I think

The new girls are beauties. Congratulations!
Do you still believe you haven't been bitten by the betta bug? I have always found females to be more addicting than males. I guess it is just a personal preference, though. :]

Ha ha William, I knew because I've been there, done that.

    I've said that before too.

Your females are just gorgeous! Bettas are great fish, no wonder we can't have just a few.

yes, I must admit, I've been bitten too

first time I saw the females at my local fish shop I thought they were all dull colours so I never thought much of them. But then I found that females change colours, they can be as vibrant as males once they settle in their new home.

When I saw the light coloured girls I knew I wanted to take them home. (I've been an admirer of Kay's Belle from the start ) I wasn't sure whether I want to have them in their individual tanks or to put them together with some other girls. I then spotted MG, she is the only one with that colour in the fish shop, dark body and orange fins with black line at the edge of her fins, very pretty, I had to take her home too

Most of the other girls are multi colour VT, but some of them like Minnie are combtail, very cool, so I bought another girl. It's better to have 4 girls anyway rather than 3.

So far I haven't seen the ovopositor of the girls but I'm sure they are not boys because of their size and they are not as aggressive as my boys.

When I have some money to get a bigger tank I might get some more girls but in the mean time I'll stick with 2 boys and 4 girls

the girls still flare from time to time btw, and I saw MG with a torn tail yesterday, but it's as good as new today they heal so quickly, don't they.

Do people with sorority tanks have problems with feeding? I try to give each of them 2 betta pellets, twice a day, but they are so quick, some of them have more than 2 by stealing from their sisters.

The boys are fed 4 pellets twice a day but they look a little fat. I wonder if I should reduce it to just 2 -3. How much are you guys feeding your bettas?

    thanks k9krazee for the signature!
