Anyone ever go for a colonoscopy????

I need advice on how to get through drinking that nasty crap in prep for the procedure tomorrow.

I got cherry flavor and it's in the fridge chilling. It's a freaking GALLON!!! I've got to drink 8 ounces every 10 minutes till the stuff is gone. I'll never get any sleep!!!! I might as well sleep ON the toilet!!! I can't even turn my tv towards the bathroom door because I've got a "guest" in the bathroom. At least I'll have company.

Heeelllllllpppp!!!!!! Advice please. And RICHARD, no digs about "how are things coming out".

I personally have not had one, but my BF has. Don't worry it won't last forever. After all, once everything is out.......your done.
He kept running to the bathroom and closing the door. He was awake and I was in bed. I told him to just shut the bedroom door so he wouldn't have to hassle with closing the bathroom door everytime. But in your case, you will have to hassle with the door so your guest doesn't escape. Hmmm....maybe move the TV into the bathroom?? Or start a new book?

    Good luck!

Oh Donna, wish you had posted before this!

There are 2 prep methods, one is what you have. The other is tablets you drink with ginger ale. Much easier, recommended for seniors (why they don't give it to the rest of us unless we ask is beyond me!)

So, not familiar with the method you have, but sure wish you well.

I just started it. I hold my nose when I drink the sh*t then rinse my mouth out after I'm done. It's not TOO bad, but just looking at that huge jug I gotta drink ALL OF IT, UGH!!! It's in a jug exactly in the shape of Tidy Cat Litter!!!

    Sandie,

I didn't realize there were pills. Why the heck don't they tell you that??

    *sigh*

Donna ~ I've never had one but my husband and mother have. They both say that the prep is the worst part of the procedure.

Never heard of the pills, but when it's my time, I'm gonna ask for them!

Good luck! Hope everything comes out in the "end".

Goodness, I remember my mother having to go through that process around a year ago. I felt terrible for her and I feel the same way for you now. It seems so unpleasant. I asked her how she got through it and apparently she did the same as you are doing, though she said she never finished the whole jug.
Good luck with the rest of it!

I had a colonoscopy about a year ago, and I was told to get Miralax (which can be bought over the counter) and mix it with Crystal lite lemonade flavor. It wasn't that bad actually. And I was able to drink all of it before I started my bathroom trips!

Good luck Donna! As others have said, the prep is the worst. Once there tomorrow, you will sleep through the whole procedure.

I am so glad that you are having this done. I have suggested it to many folks, both on PT and friends that they have one done. My Mother is a colon cancer survivor. She has had a colostomy for almost 17 years. But she is 78 and doing wonderfully! She goes on the boat, she swims, everything that she never thought she would do "with that bag"! I had mine at 45 (colon cancer history means you should have one at this age rather than 50) and they removed 2 pre-cancerous polyps. So it is sooooo worth it! Would I have survived to age 50 had I not had one at 45 and had these removed?

Good luck with your prep... and tomorrow will be a breeze! Be prepared to go out for a nice little meal after, cuz I bet you will be hungry!

Dad has, and he takes delight in describing to me just how awful and icky the whole drinking of that good and the aftermath is. But we were glad he went, his doc found a few pre-cancerous cells that subsequently got removed before they could do any harm.

I'm hoping by the time I get there, age-wise, they'll have a less icky solution!

Never had one either, but sure have read about it on here, remember David P having one, you should have given him a call, he sure can tell you all about it,well least i think that was the procedure if my memory does not fail me.

In NZ we are finally going to be able to get these as a regular check up just like cervical smears,it has been a long time coming and will be available in about five years, thank goodness, before you had to have something wrong and go to a specialist before you were able to get one.

I am thinking of you and wishing you the best, hoping the results are good and you are not to uncomfortable, take care, hugs.

Yep, I've had one. The prep is the worst part for sure as others have said. Since Donna has already started drinking the stuff, we won't be hearing from her for quite a while unless of course she has a laptop and is typing from the potty! You literally can't leave the bathroom!

Still alive and reporting from...you got it

    THE POTTIE!!!!

But I've got great company. Lil Rorie who we THOUGHT was a girl, is actually a boy (I forgot to look and she was too feral yesterday). He's purring like a kitten and playing with his toys. I'm almost done with the jug and will probably have a permanent toilet seat ring on my butt!!

I'm glad I'm doing this. The stuff really isn't that bad once you get used to it. I'll be curious to see if they find anything. I'm off from work tomorrow and Thursday and plan on having a nice dinner with my kid when this is all over.

Thanks for keeping me company guys!! The prep IS the worst.

    colonoscopy

I have had the proceduredone twice and the drink does not improv, you stillfeel like bringing it right back up. The only thing you can do is drink it right down, there is no secret to taking that nasty drink. It is a good thing the procedure is not as bad. Margaret in Michigan

Hi, Carole. I've been calling Donna every day to give her encouragement and to tell her what I went through. As everyone said, the preparation is the worst and she's almost done with that part. HUGS to Donna!
