    Meet Mickey! My Summer Bunny

For three weeks this summer, I'm looking after a friend's two children during the day. Their daughter just had a birthday and she's been begging for a pet of her own for years (the family has two cats). She's asked for geckos, turtles, kittens, and bunnies. *laughs*

They were planning for a gecko (with me as their guide) but in the end, they went to the Humane Society and picked out Mickey.

He's a little shy (they've only had him for a couple of weeks) and doesn't like to be held, but after a bit, will approach you and loves to have his ears rubbed. I forgot how soft bunnies are. He doesn't have free roam of the house yet (it still needs to be bunny proofed), but does get to spend time in his play pen while I'm over.

He's quite a character. We'll set up a pyramid of cups and he barrels right for it and knocks it over. He's a treat to watch. I think I'm in love. Oh dear...

    And without further ado.... Mickey...

Not shy of the camera, that's for sure.

Sniffing at the camera (and then seeing if it's edible)

Aww, what a cutie!! I love the markings.

My niece brought her bunny in the house a couple weeks ago while I was over. He immediately went to the dog beds and peed on them. LOL That's what he thinks of them!!
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Aww, has he taught you the universal standard bunny petting technique yet? Take two fingers, start at his nose, and run up toward his ears. Miss Hoppy taught us that, and every bunny I have met ever since has loved it. A year or so ago, there was a bunny at the Petco for some pet adoption event, he came to the front of the hutch, and I petted him like that, and he instantly melted into "happy bunny" pose. The woman with him said, "Wow, you sure know how to pet a bunny!" So I explained who taught me!

Awww! He hasn't Karen, but I'll have to give that a try. I have stroked his head, ears, and back and whenever I touch him, he freezes. I don't know if it's a "oh crap she's touching me!" response or a "oh that feels nice" response.

    What's the 'happy bunny' pose?

The "happy bunny" is when it seems like he's hunkering down, and just relaxes into it. Given a few days, I bet you'll get that response!
