I just recieved this from my buddy Mike (Klinger and Yetta's Dad) who has moved away. While being my neighbor, he spoke often of his Mothers cat Pelinka and told me many stories about her. I came to know her through him. While I was on the boat the last time out, I recieved email that his Mother had died.
I don't think anybody could have written a better memorial to a faithful companion than this...
Dear Friends, I have an amazing cat story. Last year when my Mom entered a nursing home, I had to find a home for her cat PELINKA (Spanish for BEGGAR [fem]). A lady Rosie Martinez in San Antonio, Tx adopt Pelinka. Pelinka was reregistered with Home Again Pet microchip organization as San Antonio as her home and Rosie as her owner. Pelinka was very loved by Rosie's family and ran the house over 2 other cats and a Golden Lab.
On 14 April my Mom was rushed to emergency in El Paso with a severe lung infection. On that day in San Antonio Rosie returned home from having back surgery. Pelinka seemed to be very despondent and refused to eat. As well as refusing to be loved on by Rosie and/or her family.
On 17 April my Mom passed away in El Paso. That evening 570 miles away in San Antonio Pelinke refused to come back into Rosie's home. Just stayed in the backyard avoiding Rosie and her family. Even the Golden Lab tried to get Pelinka back inside. But Pelinka wouldn't come in.
On 23 April my Mom was buried at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with my Father Adolph (OBM). That day was the last time Rosie saw Pelinka.
On 28 April (yesterday) I recieved a call from the San Antonio Animal Shelter that they had found Pelinka and scanned the micro chip and contacted Home Again. My name and number had come up. Last year I had contacted Home Again to tell them that Rosie was the new owner and Pelinka would be living in San Antonio. Also Rosie had contacted and supplied the correct info.
Last night I contacted SA AS with Rosie's phone number. They called her and she described Pelinka and also gave them Pelinka's rabies tag number. They told Rosie and also they had told me that Pelinka was very thin and dehydrated.
SA AS told Rosie that when their VET came in the today and checked Pelinka out. They would call her to let her know what was wrong with Pelinka or if Pelinka was alright to come get her.
Rosie contacted me this morning and so did SA AS that sometime last night or early this morning Pelinka had died.
Whether you believe in coincidences or not. (I for one DO NOT believe in coincidences.) I think my Mom came for her little PELINKITA
Although Pelinka was an outdoor/indoor cat, Rosie told me that ever since Pelinka arrived in San Antonio, she preferred to stay indoors. According to SA AS Pelinka was picked up 10 miles west of Rosie's home. I believe that Pelinka was headed back to EP.
Many Jewish Rabbis do not believe that animals have a Soul. I believe the opposite.
May the memory of our loved ones whether they be 2 legged or 4 legged be a blessing to us all.

Pelinka, may you rest in peace happily reunited with your forever Mom, and the two of you be snuggeled warmly together on a soft cloud. You were loved here and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many. What a girl you were, faithful til the end. God Bless your sweet soul.
