BETTA owners, how big are their bubblenests?

I've decided to do 100% water change weekly. It's quite handy having 2 tanks and only one fish - I just moved Max to the other tank (already set up) whilst cleaning the other one, and setting it up for next week.

Max seems to love the other tank as well and building his bubble nest again in no time.
    Look at this

I wonder if he feels romantic after seeing pictures of the lady bettas here at PetTalk

How about you guys? Do your bettas make big nests too?
Do they keep making another one everytime you do a water change?
Please post the pictures of your bettas and their bubblenests too.

    Thanks!

I have a betta at work, he looks much like your Max. Well he's not really my betta, someone else brought him in but he is staying in my office as it is not as bright and much quieter. I feed him and keep him company. He's only been in here a few days but this morning I noticed what appeared to be a bubble nest in his tank. This bubble nest is just a cluster of bubbles in one area, is that a true bubble nest? It looks kind of like your pic. The bubbles do not come out of the water, rather they lay on top? I have named my betta Crimson for his red color.

yes, that sounds like a bubble nest.
it usually lays or float on one side or one corner of the tank.
it will get bigger and bigger until it is time for water change
and then he starts over again

this is Max's nest from above.
It doesn't look big at all from this angle.

would love to see some pictures of Crimson if you have them

I'll see what I can do. He's my office fish so I will have to bring my camera in next week.

His water is getting changed tomorrow so his bubble nest will be gone. Hopefully he will make a new one then.

All of my boys make nests regularly. Here's the Gaston's biggest so far. He had this one and another one in the middle of his tank!

Too lazy try and capture thier nests right now. I have four bettas and all of them seem to make nice bubble nests. I do the same as you and have an extra little tank and rotate my bettas with a clean tank about every 4 or 5 days. Anna taught me that little secret and it really works for me. I hate to change their tanks when they have a good bubble nest going. I'm always afraid that they won't build another one. So far they seem like happy little fish and always do. Blueberry and my blue/white one seem to build the biggest nests.

    Max is very handsome!

All of my boys have bubblenests. Some of them like to make smaller nests that are really thick, some are bigger but thin. They just vary between Bettas. Even some of my girls bubblenest! I gave my friend Grace a female from my last spawn, and she makes a massive bubblenest within a day of each water change, without fail.

This is one of the biggest nests I've seen. It was Maui's nest, during his first spawn. By the time they were done spawning, the nest took up half of a 10 gallon!

impressive bubblenests boys (and some girls)

Gaston's nest has to be the biggest I've seen.

bckrazy, do they make even bigger nests when they spawn?
lovely pair you've got there, was the spawning successful?

Yes... they make HUGE nests. The boys work on them for several days, straight, without sleep. And you're supposed to heat the spawning tank to 80-82*, and cover the top, so it's nice and steamy in there.

The spawn was very successful! It was my first, and I had about 90 babies. Some PTers got a few of them, actually. ; )

bckrazy, well done on your successfull spawning and rearing fry.

Max had a third water change on Monday
He didn't build a bubble nest right away which had me worried
but my worries are gone now, he has built another one
I'm sure it will be just as big at the end of the week until it's time for a water change again.
