Thanks! I'll definitely try it. This will be the first time I've used lard since I lived in Virginia 25 years ago.

We have a grocery store here called Freshco. I'm not sure if it's a chain or not. I went in there a few days ago. They have the biggest selection of Hispanic foods and spices I've ever seen. The spice selection alone is unreal. They probably have that brand of flour. I'll take a trip down there and give it a shot.

Cut the recipe in half and practice! If they don't have La Pina, look for other brands! I think MASECA is another type.

    LUCK!

Anthony Bourdain visited Mexico City and ate and ate and ate!

It made me hungry for food off of a taco wagon/truck.

Watch the episode if you can.

THAT was MEXICAN FOOD- don't forget to see the woman making hand made blue tortillas!

I wonder if she is single!

On Guy Fieri's show, "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" --- Guy visited a restaurant called the Chicken Basket that's about a five-minute drive from my house! I was so surprised when I realized where he was. I love their chicken soup, which they make from scratch.

    I'll try to catch it.

Richard: My latest creation: Tonight I made pancakes. I put cooked chorizo in the pancake batter. Chorizo, pancakes, maple syrup. What can I say? You have to try it. Of course I had more chorizo on the side. Delicious!!!

That's great, Elyse. I bet you were flabbergasted!! Cool!! I think alot of his shows are filmed at places that people write in about. Did they serve chicken soup on the show?

Alton Brand had a show about making corn tortillas from scratch...and I do mean scratch: flint corn to nixmatal (sp?) (lye treatment), cleaning, grinding, making the dough, and using the tortilla press! Lots of work!

    YES That was it!
Nixtamal! You get and A+ for spelling!

Now you have to add to his 'recipe' elbow grease, amor (love) and a little wrist action to make the 'hand formed' tortillas, Some people use a press, like he did!

Now think of doing that every day for breakfast and dinner! Lunch is a little more informal! and is usally made from left over breakfast stuff!

I broke down and made some of Aida's cilantro rice tonight,

I have some beans and a chile verde (pork w/green chile sauce) that I am going to have with home made tortillas!

Dude, the rice was freaking XLNT!

I had one of the best meals last night.

The cilantro rice was really good-when I make it next time I'll add an extra chile - I couldn't really taste the one serrano chile but over all it was really good!

    Recipe?

    Three ounces of cilantro
    three cloves of garlic,
3.5 cups of chicken, beef or veggie stock.

Puree in blender the cilantro, garlic and 1.5 cups of stock.

Dice half an medium onion, and sautee-
Add 2 cups of rice, the puree and the rest of the stock,
cover and cook. about 20 minutes.

I am going to try this with some stir fry later on in the week.

Does anybody watch "Chopped"? I love that show for some reason. I didn't know it existed until about a week ago.

Richard, what do you know about the native dishes in El Salvador? My son travels there for his work.

I have seen parts of chopped, like the premise, don't like the judges.

El Sal food? NOt a whole heck of a lot-maybe just the black beans and plantains?

I tink PUPUSAS are from there?

I don't like the judges either but I like the concept. I totally agree with you.

I have some Pupusas here now that were brought from there. They're pretty good.

    Hokay,

Did anyone watch the Iron Chef/Crab show last night?

I tuned in to see what they were cooking and saw a chef from the Top Chef Show as a sous chef to the challenger lady chef.....

I was laughing because I was trying to figure out if she was on Hell's Kitchen or Top Chef...I think it was TC...anyway, she made a dish that she showed to the woman who had challenged Booby Flay and was told to toss it-she burned it!

I started to look for her on the TC sites but gave up rather quickly-but I also found out that Marcel-the guy with the "Wolverine" haircut got busted for a DUI and was criticized for 'stealing' an egg dish from another famous chef...
    Too funny.

I watched the show but I was flipping back and forth to the Oscars. I missed that part. I don't watch TC so I wouldn't have recognized her. Wasn't Booby Flake's challenger a chef/judge on Chopped? Maybe I'm wrong.

    LOL, some blondes do.

The gal's name is Ariane and she was a contestant on this season's TC.

Here's another thing I noticed watching TVFN the other day.

On one program they were using Kroger brand food stuff. They usually will print "new" labels for the canned and boxed stuff or tape over the brand names. That was a first time I noticed any program using a store brand of food.
