Wow, was he purposely bred? That seems like it could be kind of dangerous.

There is no such thing as a bobcat and domestic cat hybrid. There are other wild cat and domestic hybrids like bengals but bobs and domestics have never successfully crossed.

I'm not trying to be rude. It's true. If you paid big money for it you were duped and should sue. If you truly believe it's a hybrid have it's DNA tested. Your's will be the first ever verified hybrid bob. You might even make national news. People have tried to cross them in captivity and it never works. Their gestations periods are to different ect, besides the bob usually killing the domestic.

Pixie-bobs are just domestics bred to look more bobcat like. If your's is one of those.

    Previous post is wrong

    Check out the Link:

There are also reputable breeders that sell hybrids.

Just curious, but did you read the link you posted? Bobcat hybrids do not exist, sorry to burst your bubble. And to date, as it says in the link you provided, there is no genetic marker for bobcats. They simply are fake, what people claim are hybrids to make money. Plus, by looking at the cat he has no bobcat traits at all.

They're beautiful, I will agree, but how can anyone justify charging upwards of $4-$8k for a cat if it isn't only for profit?? Plus she wants to declaw them... It's a shame. I will agree she sounds more reputable than most breeders, though, but I still can't fathom charging $4-$8k for a kitten when an entire litter shouldn't cost you anywhere near that much in vet bills.

Actually, that's barely anything! These cats are extremely rare, and she has been the first ever to work on this new breed for TICA. They should be selling for at least 10 thousand IMO. It is TICA policy to charge what is deemed appropriate, and this is definitely appropriate in this case. These are very very rare cats, and it will take years to come up with an exceptable "standard". It will take a long time for this breed to become domestic, and will take a lot of work to get there.

As far as declawing, they most definitely should be declawed. Until they are a recognized domestic breed, all babies should be declawed. They will have the personality of a caracal, and not the safest cat to have around. I don't know if you've seen caracals in person, but they are huge, and not as friendly as a serval. They have a habit of being flighty and even a gentle "I'm trying to get away put me down I don't want to be held" can lead to some nasty wounds. They are not a cat for just anyone, hence the price tag.

Maybe they shouldn't be bred at all if they are too wild to own safely. Do we really need another breed of cat or another type of exotic pet?

I love exotics, and say bring it on!

I've love to see new breeds. Ones without squished faces and ten million health problems.

I agree. Plus, it would be awful for those breeds just to die out. What a tragedy that would be!

when people invents new species like all those hybrid-cats and then decides that it's better to not breed them anymore I don't consider that dying out...

When a feline SHOULD be declawed you take away the essence what makes it a feline. A feline needs her claws to hunt and to mark her surroundings. Having claws is what makes it a feline. Sure, the new breeds look fantastic and since I have a large Coonie I know what wilder cats can do with their claws (ough ) but when i only can buy declawed cats then I don't want a cat...

Declawing is pure animal abuse and I'm so glad I live in a country where vets and cat-owners would even think of something like that...

    my bobcat mix

I found a bobcat mix kitten from a female barn cat. This was the best cat I have had. He tore up the carpet and would wrap himself around my leg, show his fangs and not let go unless I made funny screams. He looked alot like Brat. I would love to find another such kitten. I live in Jasper near Eugene.
