Thread: Boof is Sick! :(

I'm so glad he's doing so much better, that bump does sound rather yucko.

But as long a pretty Boof is getting better that's all that matters!

While that sounds gross, I'm glad the bump is about gone! I hope Boof does ok.

ok well the specialist said even though the abcess is draining, it will just keep coming back. boof is having an operation to remove it on tuesday. Scary! While he is under he is gonna have his teeth filed as well as the vet checking his jaw. he is also getting 5 xrays and just had a blood test yesterday. rabbit veins are very fine, so it is difficult to find one to take blood from. They had to shave around one of the back legs, then the other cause they couldn't get a vein from the first one. he had to wear banages on his legs until night time. Poor boofy is so miserable.

Oh little Boofy, sweet sweet Boofy. I am so sorry you have to go through all this. However you are in the best of hands with your wonderful mummy and all the vet is doing also. I wish I could just hold you and take the pain away. Sending you many hugs and kisses. Monica

Boof is ok for the moment. he is still on antibiotics, we are just trying to decide whether to get an operation for him to remove his middle ear, or to just keep him on permanent antibiotics. it depends on how he goes in the next couple of weeks. We are also worried cause the operation can be quite dangerous. we are just weighing out the pros and cons. Any suggestion you can give me would be great. i am just so torn with this question. Argh! i need advice!

Has your vet offered any advice on what to do? I will keep Boof in my prayers.

have you gotten any second opinion from another vet? That might help. Maybe even just emailing people - Miss Hoppy's fabulous vet at Tufts Veterinary College is here: http://www.tufts.edu/vet/facpages/mayer_j.html and there's an email address for him ...

Good News! Boof may not have to have the operation. He has been improving a little on the antibiotics, and in two weeks we have to take him back to the specialist and learn how to give him penicillin injections. He will have to have one injection a week for the rest of his life. The injections are so much cheaper than what he is on now. it is $30-$40 for a bottle, and that lasts 12- 16 monthes. Thanks again everyone, the specialist thought he would really need the operation, but when we brought him in yesterday, she was really surprised by his improvement. Your prayers must be helping. Boof has even learnt how to use his half numb tongue so that he doesn't chew on it any more. The vet wasn't expecting that. I am so happy!!!
