    Floods in my area (pics)

There were heavy rainfalls yesterday and the night before yesterday (it was pouring down for almost 24 hours), and the water of the rivers were rising quickly. Having three rivers here in our town, parts of the town were soon flooded. In many houses, the basements were full of water, and streets had to be closed.

I went downtown this morning to take some photos; luckily the water was already on its way back. But you can still see how scary it was (faces of people in the pics were made blurry to protect their privacy):

Other parts, like the next big city, Kassel, were hit even harder by the floods!

Well, the good thing is that the water levels are going down, so things are getting back to normal. But the newspaper said that in Goettingen, which is 30 km away from here, obviously a woman fell into a river and wasn't seen again. I wonder what happened to her.

I'm glad you and your girls are okay, Kirsten.

Kirsten, I'm glad to learn that things are getting back to normal and you and the girls made it through this all right. And I hope the woman who fell in the river is safe and dry now.

I was struck not only by the depth and intensity of the flood but also by the power and beauty of your photographs in conveying the story. You have a rare gift.

Well, things are back to normal now, but as far as I know, there weren't any more news on that woman who people saw falling into the river. She has never been found, but on the other hand, no person has been reported to be missing. So maybe she fell into the river and was able to get out all by herself. I hope she's safe.

Seems you got quite an amount of water you got, but I'm glad to hear it's going receeding now. It's nice and dry up here.
