    FIV & FeLV info

I received the November 2007 edition to Cat Fancy in today's mail. (It has the Selkirk Rex on the cover).

They have an article on FIV on page 30. And an article on FeLV on page 38. Plus an article on FIP on page 28-9. (Friends of mine just lost a cat to FIP).

You may remember my year old, Bobby, is FIV positive. And LuckyNumber7 has one cat as well. So I was interested in the FIV article in particular.

There is an increased risk to the other cats in the house developing FIV, even with no bites, which dismayed me to read. The FIV vaccine will help the cat give off less of the virus, limiting the risk, which I loved reading! I will see about getting the vaccine for Chaplin!

I have 2 FIV guys here. One is a foster (Frankie) and the other is a foster that I adopted last year (Honeybun). I had one foster, Piglet, who tested FIV+ 2 or 3 times as a kitten, but then when he was about 1 1/2 or 2 he tested negative 3 times in a row. I'm hoping that Chaplin will be able to fight off the virus the way Piglet did....

I just got the Cat Fancy magazine at school so I'll have to check it out on Monday. (I changed my magazine orders for the library and ditched Sports Illustrated - someone kept taking them and not returning them BEFORE they even got to the library, and the Swimsuit Edition disappeared the past 4 years BEFORE it got to our library mailbox too.. The one vice principal won't fess up, but I'd bet a paycheck that it's him!!)

With the special needs guys I take in, I like to keep up to date on the FIV info. Thanks for the heads up!!!

I dunno. Bobby had the Western Blot test last week, and it was clear he DOES have it. We did that because we are having so much trouble with his food allergies. Some of the meds which would help with that, he can't have wtih the positive reading. It sure would be nice if he fought it off.
