Bladder Stones

Phoenix is scheduled for surgery in the morning.
Is there anyone else whose cat had that type of surgery before?
I feel terrible and wonder if it could possible be my fault for switching foods during the pet food recall. I’ve been feeding a combination of dry and wet.
Evo and Petpromise dry and Wellness and Natural Balance wet.
The girls seem to be doing great on it.
I hope Phoenix is going to be ok.

I have had 2 bladder stone cats. Thumper (many years ago) and Rutherford. Both did very well after surgery. the secret is (afterward) having the stoned analyzed and then feed strictly what the doctor orders. (and the recalled food would not have been a cause of this problem. I am sure the stones have been forming for quite some time before they were discovered - as is usually the case)

So try not to worry, things should be fine for dear Phoenix.

How long did it take them to recover?

Well, Rutherford had TWO surgeries at the same time, the other was the PU (where they turn a male into a female, so to speak), but recovery was fairly quick. Not much longer than you would expect after a spaying.

I'm sorry to hear about Phoenix. I hope that his surgery will go well and that he'll make a quick recovery. I'll be keeping him in my thoughts and prayers.

Fister had that operation a few years ago, and he recovered quickly and has had no problems since.

Be prepared that he'll have to wear a cone around his head for 5-6 days to prevent him from licking his stiches, but he'll cope with that in no time.

Fister had his stiches out after 10 days, and that was a bit painful for him. It took two of us to hold him down, while the vet took them out.

What a horrible week.
I thought I was going to loose him. He’s been so very sick after his surgery.
Very lethargic and didn’t eat anything for 5 days, vomiting and diarrhea.
I don’t know if the pain medication (Metacam) or the antibiotic Clavamox) made him sick. He’s been back to the Vet 5 times for shots and Fluid. We tried anti nausea shots and Cyproheptadine, Hills A/d, Tuna Chicken, Nutri-Cal and a variety of cat food to get him to eat. He would just sniff the food and than turn his head away.
Auggie was adding to the stress by hissing at him and basically freaking out over his vet smell. I was so upset.
Anyway, today he is finally eating and I’m so relieved.
I hope he is getting better.

I'm sorry to hear that Phoenix became so ill after his surgery. It may have been the clavamox or a combination of both meds. After his PU surgery,Storm also became very sick with diarrhea due to the antibiotics and he also refused to eat and drink. I had to give him sub-q fluids and feed him whatever I could get him to eat. I'm glad to hear that he's finally doing better. Get well soon Phoenix.

I am so sorry that he got to sick. Honestly, Rutherford went through his surgeries with ease. I certainly hope he is now on the road to recovery.

I'm so sorry to hear that Phoenix has had such a bad time. That must have been hard for you.

Daisy especially will be keeping her paws crossed for Phoenix. She knows what it's like to be hissed at by a rotten cat when you are not feeling your best!
