Jess and Dandelion clocks....millions of em...

We have a field near us that has been left farrow for the last several years and the natural flora has started taking over. Dandelions were one of the first things and, being as there was nothing else in their way, they covered the whole field. When they first come, the field turns yellow with their flowers. Normally I take photos of the dogs in the flowers because it looks so good but I didn't have chance this year. Still, over the last few days, I noticed how dense all the dandelion clocks were, mainly because we've had little wind to blow them away. Yesterday, I decided to get some quick snaps before work because they forecast rain for today and I knew that might ruin them. It was a good call because it has been blustery today and when I took our Jess this morning before work, all but a very small few of them had totally blown off. We only had one short shower this morning though, lol.

Our poor old Jess, at 13, found it a bit tiring labouring through this lot and I had to make sure no pappus got into her ears. Normally, she'd stick to the path had I not had her posing for me....

Wow, that's amazing to see. Such a beautiful backgroud to showcase the beautiful Jess dog. I like the one where you can only see her head.
    Great pictures, thanks for sharing.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

No way! That is one of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen on PT. I would frame one of them.

Neat pictures! She looks pretty happy surounded by all that fluffiness! I've never heard the term "clocks" used to describe the seedheads before, is there any special reason they're called "clocks"?

    Thanks all.

I'll have to post some photos I got of her and mist in the dandelion flowers last year. I need to save them off disc first though.

Cyber-sibes - The term dandelion clocks comes from this thing we do in the UK, where you blow the seedhead and however many blows it takes to get them all off is the time it is, haha. Silly, yes but it's widespread here. Dandelion clocks is the only thing you hear people call them round here.

Here is a link that explains it. The Dandelion isn't native to the U.S, maybe thats why it didn't acquire the term over there.

Wow, you got some really nice shots there. The spot the Jess shot made me laugh.

ETA: Now I understand the line "Dandelions don't care about the time" in the Stones song.
