    To Those Who Rescue

Saw this in my searching today....many of you came to mind (especially mugsy!).

    Room For One More

I see by his coat he must be a stray
The untidy look gives him away
He's lost his will and is so thin
He hasn't eaten since God knows when
I know as I coax him through the door
There's always room for one more

The other night in the freezing rain
That little female came up again
Matted and soaked, crying in need
Lost and alone with babies to feed
Her pleading eyes I couldn't ignore
There's always room for one more

There's a new face on the block today
Hungry and unclean to our dismay
I stroked her head and her body rippled
When she got up I saw she was crippled
She started to go but fell to the floor
There's always room for one more

There's the poor dog standing in the rain
I've tried to entice him time and again
One ear's lopsided, the other's been torn
Blind in one eye, lost and forlorn
He's coming now, so I'll open the door
There's always room for one more.

Thanks for thinking of us Sue, that is so true, I don't care if we end up with 25, I will NOT turn anyone away. That is a wonderful poem, however people who dump these poor creatures make my blood boil. Thanks again.

    Sue,

That was just beautiful, sad and true, I've been thinking
for the past few months that I want to take in another dog.
Buddy is "mature" enough to accept another dog, I think.
There are so many dogs of all ages who might die never
knowing any human kindness, it just hurts my heart. I'm
thinking maybe looking for a female (3+ yrs) who might
just blend in with Bud.(He is accepting of females, after a
proper intro). I'm going to pray about it. Thanks for posting. Liz.

    Liz,

Are you thinking of seeing Rosie for you addition??? She has such great dogs. What about Mama Dog...she is just too sweet.
That poem made me bawl like a baby. I hope all is well with Buddy!!

Sue thanks again for posting that. I copied and pasted it to Esther at Pet Refuge, that poem is the epitome of their mission.

    Hi Molly,

Bud's blood work came back yesterday. He does have
some liver damage, but the vet says not to worry too much
about it. Since he's been on Pred so long, some lost of
function is expected. The runs have stopped, but he wants
to treat him with diet changes and not antibiotics. So far it's
working. Bud will have ups & downs, but don't we all. I'll do
whatever I can for as long as I can. He was able to go for a
short walk today. YEA ! I love this little bugger. I probably
will check out the Indy Humane Society(were Bud came from)
but will also be looking at Rosie's Animal Shelter, etc. Liz.

Liz, sorry to hear about Bud's liver problems. Was his ALT high? Killian seems to be doing well at the moment on his special liver diet.

Great to hear that you are thinking of another dog. I figure, if you have one, how much trouble is another? I just love it when Killian and Shiloh are sprawled out together across the floor sleeping. It's great to see how much they miss each other when one goes to the vet and then returns. I love the way Shiloh takes care of Killi. I love the way Killi growls at Shi when she is eyeing his food after she just scarfed down hers. I love walking both dogs down the block.....I could go on and on... I hope you do rescue another!! Good luck!

Sue, thank you for posting that. The only three fosters that I have had all had very rough beginnings, but they are happy and healthy now, but unfortunately, all of them are still up for adoption. The one that surprises me the most is Ingram, who is such a love, a mature 6-7 year old Golden Boy, who is so calm. If I had room, I'd take him in a minute.

I've learned a lot from all of you about this rescue business, and I really appreciate all that you do.

    Sue,

Buddy rated (AH) abnormal high in 12 areas. AL, abnormal low
in one (Sodium-potassium). His ALT was 251.Normal range on
test is 15 to 110. I don't know what half this stuff means, but
the Vet did give me a copy of the test to check out myself. All
the enzymes are rated as AH,AL or Panic high,Panic low.PH,PL.
Buddy's Vet promised he would be straight with me, and not
try to downplay anythink if it were "really" serious. Do you
think 251 seems high? Please say no. Thanks, Liz & Buddy.

Killi is at 324 at the moment. Went up to 459 a couple of months ago, but came back down to last years level. He was up as high as 821, then crashed. On the liver BB, some dogs have gone as high as in the 1000's! Let me know what the vet tells you. Good luck! I will find you a definition of what those numbers mean. The normal numbers are at the bottom.
