    Question about crystal meth..

I was just watching Dog the Bounty Hunter, and they arrested someone that was high on meth (ice, krank, etc). They were all afraid to touch the guy so they had to wear gloves to avoid "becoming infected." They didn't say he had any viral diseases or anything. I don't know much about crystal meth so I was just wondering if it is dangerous to touch someone using it? Maybe if they have some on their hands it could rub off on you or something?? Or was it because he had needle marks all over his arms and they were afraid of touching them and contracting HIV somehow? Just curious, they didn't explain it so I'm wondering what it was all about.
    I've been BOO'd!

You can't "catch" crystal meth from somebody; but since it sends people down the tubes so fast, they do often end up with HIV and other communicable diseases simply because they're careless (that's more cause than effect, really) and their general health is shot.

You can't catch something by touching them unless they have open wounds, vomit, blood, or other bodily fluids on them. The risk doesn't come directly from the meth, but from other diseases that people on meth often have. There's also a large risk of needles in pockets and such so they have to be very careful in apprehending someone clearly on drugs.

In EMS they call it body substance isolation; got to protect #1.

If you saw an episode where everyone who raided the "meth" lab, be decontaminated. That means everyone passes through a decontamination tent.

Crystal Meth is a very dangerous drug. One hit and you are hooked!!

And no, I've never EVER tried the stuff.

One of the officers on my forum called it crackX10. It's highly addictive. And the sores on the faces of the people are from some of the crystals coming to the surface of the skin. Here's a few pages to show how people changed from using it. Meth labs are very dangerous, too. They have had explosions from them before from all the chemicals that are used to make it.

    And a little article

Here's a video. My computer won't play it here at work so I don't know what's on it. It's supposed to show the effects of Meth.

    Hope this helps some.

All depends on the chemicals used...some of them are dangerous and highly toxic, plus of course the risk of a user having all kinds of deseases (meth abuse can cause immune system defficiency too)

I learned from personal experence that meth destroys lives, but then again a lot of things do that, drugs or not.

I too have seen the direct effects of meth and it's not a joke by any means. I had a very good friend spend a lot of time in rehab just to fall back to the nastiness of meth. She could not function normally at all. She was one of a very slim number of people who I've let mean anything to me and to watch her deal with meth was heart wrenching. I can't even type into words how much she was affected by her curse; so sad.

I was a little dismayed about the joking, too.
