Thread: 300 the movie

    300 the movie

    Has anyone seen this?

We went to see it today.

I actually really liked it. The guy that plays Leonidas was fantastic.

I am not much of a history buff (that's hubby's department lol) but I did watch a documentary recently on history channel about the battle of Thermopylae. You could tell the movie was more based on the novel that was written as there were some inaccuracies and quite a bit of Fantasy (wierd creatures and such) but it was still quite enjoyable. I would definately watch it again.

But amongst the inaccuracies.... they got the most important parts correct. The premise of the war with the Persians AND the way that the Spartans actually really fought.

It was a really good movie.

And on a side note.... I wouldn't have complained about being the casting director for the Spartans roles LOL

I want to see it very badly. I think I'll be seeing it tomorrow night. I love history, and historic movies, especially when I can go back and find out what was real and what was fake. I heard it is very artistic. I'm exited because ofthe heavily manipulated poster images of it. I tend to think more about the making of movies (art, what the writers were thinking, the sets they chose, etc.) than what is going on durring the actual movie.

The movie is comic book treatment of the story. There are a great many things that are WAY wrong, perhaps even call it an element of fantasy.

Still, they did a good job of recreating what the battle field probably looked like in 480 BC. Also, the way they display Spartan culture is accurate, save for the very begining. The Oracle scene was a little over the top.

However, the best part of the movie to me? The unwavering commitment of the story to show that freedom is not free and worth fighting for. Oh and I like how the politicians end up being the scumbags, as it should be. LOL

I saw it the other day. I was expecting it to be more realistic...I would have liked it better if it was, but I still enjoyed it.

Gerard Butler was awesome. He also played the phantom in The Phantom of the Opera

I am really excited about this movie. I've been waiting to see it for almost a year. I love Frank Miller, he wrote the comics that Sin City and 300 are based on. I saw the previews for 300 and it's obvious it's a lot like Sin City as far as it being unrealistic. It looks amazing to me. I can't wait!

That's the reason I saw it! Sin City is one of my favorite movies.. so I thought I'd probably enjoy 300 too.

I LOVED 300! I loved the camera angles, the colors.. and the Spartans

What's not to love .... buff men with rippling muscles walking around the whole movie in practically nothing but underwear. *drool* HAHAHAHA HEY my husband got to see boobs so I can talk about the sexy man bodies lol

Of course, like my husband pointed out, in the real battle they were wearing chest armour.... but (even he said this) I'm sure they didn't want to cover up their ripped bodies lol.

the battle scenes were very well done, IMO. And I am kind of surprised to be saying this but that REALLY made the movie for me.... he did a great job at depicting the battle.

I must add... that I am a little surprised my husband liked it as much as he did. he is a "history buff" LOL thats what his degree is in... so he is usually the type to pick out exactly what is incorrect lol. BUT I think the fact that we KNEW it wasn't based on the EXACT history and more the novel that was written involving that battle before we saw the movie kind of helped him move past the historical inaccuracies lol

Oh I loved, loved, loved this movie! I love action movies and such, so yeah, I loved this one. I don't know much about the real battle or anything, so I wasn't there the whole time pointing out the mistakes.

However, it was a bit awkward sitting next to your brothers in all the 'boob scenes'. Well they get that, and I get really hot, ripped guys. (who in some scenes are soaking wet from the rain -drool- )

I loved all the fantasy creatures and everything. I'm sure they weren't at the real battle, but I liked the added tidbit. It kind of reminded me of LotR, in a good way though!

See that was the thing.... it wasn't really based on the EXACT facts of Thermopylae.... it was based on a novel written later on that included the battle of Thermopylae but had added fantasy elements. So you couldn't really nit pick about what actually happened and what didn't because it wasn't based on the exact events .... But they did stick to some of the facts which was cool.
