My poor Red Lightning has passed away And I'm pretty sure I know why.
About a week ago my father wanted a betta for his 20 gallon hexagon tank, and since I had a betta he asked if I wouldn't mind putting my betta in his tank. So being a nice daughter I thought "well it couldn't hurt him I guess. He might actually like the larger room and to be in with some other tropical fish," so I got my betta out and put him in the 20 gallon.
I stayed by the tank watching Red Lightning intently for at least 5 minutes. Then one moment I looked away at the TV and when I looked back, he had himself and his pretty long fins caught in the filter I panicked and grabbed the net and turned off the filter and got him out right away and put him back in his original tank. When I put him back in he literally looked like he sighed in relief.
But thanks to the filter, a large chunk of his tail got torn off. I thought he was going to be fine and it would just grow back as does most fins when they get nicked, but it must have been too large of a chunk because about a week later he passed away.
I had Red Lightning for over a year, I think he was at least 2 or 3 years old. I hope that Red Lightning is now swimming in the beautiful tropics at the Rainbow Bridge.
