    Chatty Cat Only

My cat has been acting odd. Every time one of us washing the dishes he starts wondering around, chattering quietly or letting out these settle meows. All it takes to start this new silly behavior is one clink of a dish. Have any other cat owners experienced this crazy behavior?

Once upon a time, long long ago, perhaps even out of your memory, did you start doing the dishes, stop, and feed the cat?

If you do it once, and the cat LIKES it, THEN IT IS A RULE!!

So now your cat associates the sound of the dishes with "Oh boy, time to eat, where is it? What are you doing? Are you getting it yet? Huh, huh, HUH?????"

Once a week, or every 10 days or so, I feed my cats canned / wet food. The rest of the time, they eat kibble. Because the wet stuff is messy and the dishes need to be washed immediately aftewards (unlike with the kibble), I feed them the wet food on melamine plates (cheap, and I can store them in the cupboard handy to the cans). Each and every time one of those melamine plates rattles, I get cats running from every direction all over the house. Sparkle and Chestnut start chattering with excitement. The plates and cans are in a cupboard with other things which we use daily. So we have to be careful NOT to rattle the melamine cat plates.

Don't know if any of this applies in your case. But it is one idea!

Same here!! Or if I use a can opener for a can that doesn't have a pop top, because there are still some cat food cans that don't have them either!! Spoons rattling also gets them excited. I've been feeding them upstairs lately, because Honeybun doesn't like to eat with others, so I put him in my room with the door closed, and the others eat in the spare room with the litter boxes and ironing board etc... and as soon as I walk that way to turn on the iron... MEW, MEW,MEW,MEW,MEW,MEW!!!! I have a bevy of kitties twisting around my ankles!

Oh yea, any can I open with a pop top (some Campbell's soup and the little canned fruit cans have them, plus soda pop cans) brings my cat into the kitchen.

Your cat is normal. My cat Baxter talks to himself all time or chattering at the birds through the window. Sometimes he hums to himself. He is one smart cat. When he is bad I call TIME OUT. And he trots down the hallway to the backroom sassy me back saying NA,NA,NA!
Your cat is expressing himself. I thinks that is cool.
