    Wrist Update as an FYI

Had another check up today. I'm at a stalemate with physical therapy, so that's over for awhile. As much as the pins are annoying, the doc wants to keep them in as long as possible. I may never have the inside ones removed. As long as I can tolerate pain on the side where i have no bone, surgery is a wait and see. He thinks I will never ever be able to bend my wrist up and down, regardless of future surgeries. The only reason to operate again is to stabilize the wrist and ease the pain. I opted to call him in early fall because I'd have another high cast on again, and it's too hot and he said to enjoy the summer, cause the future isn't too great. At least he's honest

I'm allowed to take the splint off around the house. So far, I rammed my wrist 2x against a table. Something I'd never do, but because I'm over cautious..there I go. My pinky finger will never straighten out on it's own. Ihave to remember to try to keep it straight when I take off my splint. So..that's it.

My lawsuit should start in litigation by the end of the month.

That sounds awful, I'm so sorry you'll have to go through another surgery. I do hope it stops hurting and that you will gain back some of it's old range of motion. Isn't it funny how when we are extra careful we hurt it but if we would just act normal we wouldn't ever hurt it!

Thanks for the update, Karen, although I'm not sure I completely understand.
If he operates to remove the pins, that would be the reason you would need the cast which you don't need right now? And he is not very encouraging about the prospect of much improvement with future surgeries other than eliminating some of the pain which seems to be caused by the pins?

Yikes, did he give you any good news? I suppose it would be that there isn't any infection. Just shows how a person's life can change in a blink of an eye. I'm hoping the law suit will be negotiated quickly so you won't have to go through that mental trauma.

Oh Karen, that does not sound too promising. I am so very sorry and hope you are not in too much pain.
I wish you a good success with the lawsuit- it can never bring the functionality of your hand back but a little revenge would be quite in order if you ask me.

Karen I had hoped for better news. I am so sorry that he didn't give you much hope for a recovery. Now you will have to deal the stress of the lawsuit. ACK! I hope somewhere down the road justice will be served. Of course there is the ongoing concern about hearing those dogs outside and wondering if they are running free or doing more digging. You should be reimbursed for the pain and suffering of not even being able to enjoy your own back yard!

Oh Karen, it just sounds awful. To have a doctor tell you the future isn't so great?!? I would hate to hear that but on the same token wold be glad like you that he was so honest.

Good luck with the remainder of the trial. The dog's owner should be ashamed of himself and it sounds like he's not even the least bit remorseful. He'll get his day... I believe in karma.

karen is the doc an orthopedist specializing in hands/wrists? maybe a second opinion would suggest new ways of PT or surgery.

Wow! I have completely missed this whole ordeal... guess I was off on the boat when this happened to you. I went back and read up on what happened. That was a terriable thing that happened to you and it sounds like it will effect you for a long time.... I am totally shocked that this could even happen in your own yard where you should be safe.

I hope you heal a lot better than the doctors think you will, miracles happen all the time, sometimes the doctors are wrong or just draw a very bleak picture so you can expect the worst in case it should happen. I will remember you in my prayers and hope you have a speedier recovery than expected.

This just seems to unfair to have to go through all this pain & suffering
because of stupid negligence on your neighbor's part.I am hopeing for the
best outcome possible when the healing is complete.I agree with Laura's
babies in that the Doctor might not want you to get your hopes up to high
just incase of a minor setback. Can you wear your arm in a loose sling or
something to keep from bumping it on anything?

I promise not to rattle on and on..just want to clear up what I wrote-after rereading it, I confused myself!

Rach..unless the pins are excruciating and unbearable, he prefers to keep some of them in forever. He can do that surgery, as an out patient, anytime I want. If I remain in pain, other than the pins, he'll want to do more surgery. He said I can go for more opinions, but they would all say the same. He is a hand/wrist specialist. I called my family doctor, also saw my back doctor (for a check up and gave him all my info just as an FYI) and both docs agreed with the surgeon, altho NOT involved in the case.

The doc told me to try NOT to wear the splint as often as possible, so I have, except in crowds, shopping, etc. I have little strength, but can almost make a fist. I can't bend my wrist forward or backward without screaming. My skin is so sensitive I can barely touch it and I look like "The Fly", strange coarse black hair growing at the incision sites and elbow. (it's funny).

Additional surgery will be an option only if I'm in constant pain where the bone is gone. There are 3 different options, all serious and long involved surgeries and 8 weeks in another high cast. No guarantee of normal functionality regardless, despite therapy. Every decision is mine. The only way this is good is that it helps my case by being permanently disabled, but I can type slightly with my left hand. I intend to try to get a job once I feel better.

All 3 dogs were out tonight when I let Logan out. They had a riot at his back fence. His wife was in sight as ordered in court and tried to call them away. When all 3 are together, it's warfare and I worry about Logan because the fence still looks like crap to me, with openings on the bottom despite his quick fixer of wooden planks and cinder blocks. They do want Logan, I'm sure of it now but Boots saved Logan actually. It's not always easy to see if they;re outside. They are dark and we have bushes lining our side of the back fence. I'm petrified. I check through the window and door before letting Logan out. I was actually told (on the sly)to purchase a weapon.

His 30 days are almost up to comply to the state orders and I've seen no improvement. I need to decide, when the time comes, whether to accept what $ I'm offered or go to trial. If I'm not adequately compensated, I will call TV stations, newspapers etc. I should have done that originally like other people do.

I'm a natural born wimp, but when I believe in something, look out! I've just begun to fight. I'm too depressed to see straight.

    Oopps.. I RAMBLED! I LIED!!!!!
