    Legg Perthe's/Yorkies

I would be most appreciative if anyone might be able to offer helpful information regarding Legg Perthe's disease in Yorkshire terriers, or for that matter, any other breed succeptible to this disease.

My 1.5 year old Yorkie has developed bilateral Legg Perthe's disease...my vet has recommended the use of glucosamine, an anti-inflammatory agent, and we are administering physical therapy.

I have been advised that this is a somewhat unusual development for this breed to develop this bilaterally.

Again, any helpful information would be most appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear that your animal has been struck by this disease. This is a purely genetice disease so if you know where your dog was bred you should contact those people right away to let them know they are spreading it. Breeding is the only known prevention.

Here are some very informative web sites about it:

tigress; thank you so very much for your input. I.m very

appreciative of your response. wWent to sites you suggested and

contacted the breeder immediately..Not a good response from breeder, i might add.

Doing glucosomine and antii-inflammatory treatment for 8 weeks a

as vet doesn"t recommend surgery at this time. Am hopeful this

    will work.

    thanks again,

That sucks about the breeder. I hate irresponsible breeders that only care about the money and not the health of the animals they bring into the world. I hope that the guilt of having more sick puppies eats away at them!
