Post-clipping alopecia

Anyone have any knowlege of this? Nina's hair just doesn't grow back. Well, that is, the dark hair does, just not the tan and white. As best as I could find on the internet searching for days was this, Post-clipping alopecia.

I found several sites, this one has lots of dogs listed, non of which are Nina's breed, but she is or was a VERY hairy girl.

Without seeing her its kind of hard to undertstand exactly what you mean but I'm assuming that some areas of her coat just aren't growing back at all. Sometimes when you clip or shave a dog, their coat won't grow back if they have a thyroid problem. Most people don't know that there is anything wrong with their dogs' thyroid and when they shave them, their coat doesn't grow back.

I've heard of post-clipping alopecia before, but really don't know anything about it or if its the same as what I described above.

Sometimes when you clip or shave a dog, their coat won't grow back if they have a thyroid problem. Most people don't know that there is anything wrong with their dogs' thyroid and when they shave them, their coat doesn't grow back.

We had her tested for thyroid, because that was the vets first thought also. We had a specialist do the tests on her blood, in CA., he is said to be the best in the states. But the report came back perfect, normal, not high or not low, as all the blood work has.
It's just as your assuming, the undercost or white and tan parts of her hair doesn't grow. Only the pigmented hair, dark tan, as if she were a dalmation and the black spots are growing.
The PCA seems to take up to 24 months to regrow, if it does, and she looks so bad. Our poor girl. It's only been a month since we started to let her grow out. She has a long road ahead of 'bad hair days'.

Katz, I don't have personal experience, but there was a Pointer in my neighborhood, had a problem regrowing hair after an operation or medical testing. She had a patch of fur shaved off (approx. 6"x6") and it didn't grow back at all for months. However, in early spring, at just about the time when dogs will shed their old coats and grow new ones, her hair grew in just fine. So maybe Nina's hair will grow in properly in the fall when it is time for a new coat to come in.
