Anyway, my little man is home and happy, and I have gone online and rated the animal hospital and pet resort...took their A+++ rating notch or two!

    Pictures are forthcoming...thanks again everyone!
Turn these people into the vet board.
How many have they killed because of their stupidity? Yes, I understand techs can do the work but it's so obvious they are not propertly trained.
The minute I'd hear "happened many times before" I'd be out that door so fast with my aniamal and going somewhere else.
An "eye team" investigative reporter from the local news station would love to have this story brought to his/her attention.

    Rocky

I am new to the boards too but saw your story about Rocky and all the replies and updates. How sad for Rocky that he had to go through that. The poor little guy. I am glad to read that he is doing better! I use a Mobile Animal Surgical Hospital (MASH unit) and have had great success with them over the last year. Something needs to be done about the vet who butchered Rocky! No telling how many others he has hurt or even killed because of his negligence.
Millie, Navy, Clorox, Kimmy, Gracie and Rumor all send their regards!

I gotta say, when I read the title for this post my response was "Huh? How do you spay a male cat?" So I has to read it. All I can say is UNBELIVABLE!!! I am not a vet, or a vet tech, or anything, but I have been able to tell the difference between a boy and girl cat since I was SIX YEARS OLD!!!! I agree, they need to be reported. That's just bull crap!!!

I am very gald to hear that the little guy is doing good. I look forward to seeing pics of him.
My pets are usually pleased with what I do, because they are not inflected with the concept of what I SHOULD be doing. My time is owned by: Missie,Thor, and Trinity!

As a licensed tech who has worked spay/neuter clinics for years, I'm shocked at the very thought of techs performing spays.

I know in a lot of places that techs do perform routine cat castrations - under direct supervision of a veterinarian. A cat castration is a relatively simple procedure and is pretty noninvasive. There is some debate over whether it even qualifies as a surgery, putting it into a legal 'grey area'.

A cat spay is a full fledged surgery, involving an abdominal incision and invasive technique. I cannot imagine any circumstances in which veterinary technicians would be permitted to perform such a procedure.

In fact, when we are trained as technicians, it is emphasized to us that the three things we are absolutely not permitted to do are Diagnose, Prescribe and Perform Surgery. Spaying a cat falls under number three.

I just can't believe this. So happy to see that the little man is doing better now!

Inquiring minds want to know, "Don't they CHECK beforehand? Just to make sure?"

I would make the vet clinic absorb the emergency costs, it was after all on their vet's faults
I totally agree with you, Craftlady. I'd also report this clinic. Vet Techs are not licensed vets and have absolutely no business doing surgery. That is just plain butchery!!

Poor little Rocky. I'm praying for the little guy.
