    Define "chained".

Depending on the definition, I would be in violation, even though Lady has a huge area to run.

That sounds like an awesome idea! I sure hope it works out.

Hope it gets passed! (Maybe it will spread to TN, and Roxy can end her chain-free life!)

LH, I don't know that there CAN be a "lot" of definitions for chained.
I mean chained is chained. If it's not an all day tie out, I think they would
    take that into consideration.

I do hope they pass the legislation. Some cities already have it now.

Bryanna...this is California...so don't hold your breath about Tennesse...I imagine it is more common in more rural places.

Ladyshuman, I am sure your setup is safe and humane...we all know you, this would hopefully be to help with abuse issues that would not pertain to you.

LH, the artical states what "chained" means..

chaining of dogs to a stationary object, such as a tree or fence, as a primary means of confinement.

That's what ticks me off the most. Chaining "your dog" to 'live' it's 'life' on a chain is a form of cruelty, IMO. Chaining your dog up on a cool fall day for a few hours at a time is fine, IMO.

It seems "alright" to everyday people in most states to chain a bigger dog up outside while a little fru-fru gets the comfort of heat and AC. Something like this would prohibit that and hopefully force people to give these dogs a good life.

I see at least 3 dogs a day, (counting Roxy) chained up here. There's a dog down the road who I've never seen get human contact except being yelled at.. Roxy's been in the laundry room alot more lately! It's an improvement *sigh* Sorry for getting off topic

Here in Tucson it is illegal to have a dog chained or on a tie out, I'm very happy about it.

I hope it goes through! It's awful to see dogs tied up all day without any human contact. Why do these people even have a dog if they don't want to care for it?

i agree! it pissed me off to see all these small dogs getting treated like royalty when the big dogs are being treated like dirt! literally!

i know plenty of peple where this kind of abuse is acceptable:

my friend keeps her 4 chihuahuas inside while her lab stays outside.
another friend has a dachshund as a "lap dog" but keeps her boxer outside.
my broher's girlfriend keeps her 3 small dogs inside while her shepherd mix is outside.
my grandparents keep their shih tzu indoors, but they think it's stupid that i keep a sibe and a great dane in the house.

When my brothers and I were little we had a dog that lived outside 24/7. He was chained up during the night even though we had a fenced in yard. We used to let him off the chain and play with him all the time. Its the people who leave the dog out the all the time,(as a yard decoration) and have little to do with it...these are the people who we want stopped.
After I moved out, I always had my dog in the house with me. I never leave them unattended when they are out side (even to pee). I am always afraid something might happen to them if I am not there.
