    What do you think???

On a local newsgroup, people post items for sale and things wanted.Someone put on wanted a kitten, female around 8 weeks of age. Then a person posted check the local shelters they are blocked to the roof. This is what someone had to say about that...
I know of two low income families who went to the shelter for a kitten and the cost was $50.00. In addition to that, they are suppose to have them
spayed or neutered has a part of the aggreement.
So the low income families then pick up the buyandsell for 4 bucks and got a
    cat for free.

If shelters are really blocked, they may wanna start giving some away to
    good homes.
"Good homes" I thought was someone who can afford to care for the animal,if someone cant afford to pay an adoption fee and get the cat fixed, well what happens if god forbid the animal gets sick.Whos going to pay for there vet care??In my opinion if you cant afford a simple fee then you shouldnt get an animal.

How do you feel about this??Im interested to know.

It is sad, but there are always too many kittens born this time of year. Some people have not gotten the spay/neuter message, and so it seems there will always be "free to good homes" kittnes, and by "good homes" they mean someone who will take the kitten, house and feed it, never checking about veterinary care, spaying, or whatever.

    Spay and neuter!

I agree 100%.Some people dont think of the responsibilities that come with keeping an animal. Its something that should be well thought out before making the decision of being a pet owner.

I agree - if you can't afford proper vet care and speutering (spaying/neutering), you probably shouldn't get a cat. My local SPCA charges around $165.00 for a cat that is speutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed and has had a vet check. I think that if people can't afford to buy/adopt a kitten/cat, they certainly won't be able to afford speutering or annual vet care.

    Just my 2 cents...

The main reason I only have one cat is that I can afford to look after him properly and keep some money aside for emergencies like vet visits. The other reason for one cat is that Finnigan is such a grumpy old sod with other cats that he wouldn't accept another one in the house!

Our Humane Society occassionally does give away large amounts of cats they have. This isn't a very cat-crazy city (as in, not a lot of people want a cat). But they do neuter and spay before giving them away.

I also believe that if a person can't afford the adoption fee, they certainly can't afford the upkeep of a pet.

That's why I only have 4 cats now. It's easier to handle than 6-9.
