I knew of a petstore once that sold puppies and kittens, but they were good about it. They took the animals on regular walks and you had to have 3 references and a certain salary to get one.

I won't even walk in a pet store that sells puppies and kittens.
We have some pet stores here that have and adoption center with cats from the humane society. I believe they interview the prospective owner the same as the humane society does. They also have adoption days where local rescue groups come and adopt out some of their dogs too.
Justin and I were at a pet store and over heard a woman talking to someone about how her cocker came from another local pet store. She said "he has papers and everything, so you know he came from a good breeder". I think Justin could see the steam coming out of my ears because he quickly got me away from her.
There's a petstore that sells puppies and kittens near me that's about a block away from the SPCA, and it actually DISCOURAGES adoptions of the SPCA dogs. It's disgusting what they do. They have no problems with selling you a 6 week old Yorkie, X-poo, even a Border Collie. One time I asked the manager if Border Collies were energetic. To which he replied "no, son, no more than a Lab."
Resistance is Futile
I went and saw the same puppies today. :( They were so cute. Only one BC/Aussie pup left, the poor thing is all by itself. Visa watched them..
well hopfully the other aussie border mix found a good home willing and able to spend the money for any medical problems in the future... sigh
