Roxy broke her leg
I bought my daughter a pom puppy for Christmas, only cause she has wanted one for years and I decided at 17 she is old enough to take care of one. Any how Roxy is 4 months old and only weighs 2 lbs. Today she jumped off the top of my stair case and landed on the landing which was a ten foot drop. She broke both bones in her front legs, so tomorrow the Dr. is going to pin it and either cast it or splint her leg. The Dr. said that it may not heal and we will have to go to a specialist and try to plate it. But since her leg is so small it may not be able to be plated, the next option will be to remove the leg. God I hope not.The picture is Roxy sleeping the picture of the little girl hugging the chow is my daughter when she was little.

I am so sorry about little Roxy. I hope everything checks out tomorrow for the poor little girl. She's adorable, please let us know what happens!

Oh, poor thing! I do hope they will be able to splint it, and as she is still a puppy, it will heal and grow still. She'll be in our prayers.
-
I hope it can be fixed. I couldnt imagine having the alternative.
-
Oh wow! That sounds just horrible. I too can't imagine going for the alternative.. there has to be something that can be done.
Get a second [or third] opinion!!
My RB Pepper was lame in her back leg when we adopted her.. one vet had told another prospective family that it needed to be amputated!! We went with our own vet's opinion, and believe it or not.. she lived 8 more happy years with it.

I hope she is okay. It's heartbreaking to see your dogs in pain. We send PT prayers!

Ouch...... poor Roxy. That's the thing with those tiny puppies/dogs, any sort of jumping, and something most likely will break.:(
It's probably a greenstick fracture (small cracks within the bone). This is the most common fracture in puppies. Hope she gets well soon.

Roxy
I saw the x-rays both bones are broke in half so it will be a long road for her. The picture with Nola is where she jumped from about where Nola is standing is where Roxy jumped the other the white spot is where she landed. It was about a ten foot drop.

sorry forgot pictures

Oh no poor baby! Hugs to all of you and belly rubs for Roxy. Goodness, guess that is a reminder to all of us with small dogs to gate off big drops. I wouldn't have thought! Prayers for a complete recovery!
-
Poor Roxy! and you guys too! I know your heart must be so heavy with this. I agree that you should get a second opinion at LEAST! Don't do anything drastic. As Karen said, Roxy is still a puppy and growing bones mend faster than old ones!
What in the world made her jump that far?
Sending love,
Cathy

Poor little Roxy. I hope they can set the leg and it will heal. She does have her young age working in her favor too.
It's so easy for those little ones to break a leg. I've heard of them breaking a leg just by jumping off a bed. When my pom Myndi was younger, she was always racing around and jumping off things too, but fortunately she never broke anything. I just can't imagine one as small as Roxy jumping that distance.
Prayers coming from us that all will be well. Keep us posted please. Myndi (and Sparky) are sending big woofs and tails wags to your little one, and a kiss on her little head from me.

Poor puppy. My aunt has a chihuahua who broke his leg jumping off the bed as a puppy. He has a plate but they want it removed because his leg is so tiny there is nothing but a thin layer of skin over the plate. He gets sore from it sometimes and in the winter it literally freezes his leg if he's outside more than a minute. Definately consider something that can be removed once the leg heals as long as its a poissibility.

Poor baby, I feel so bad for her.
I pray she will be ok and her little legs will mend.

Yes - I agree with that.
I really never knew that was an option until I fractured my femur and had to have a rod and plates inserted. It bothers me constantly since I really have no meat on my bones to pad it, and my surgeon said that it can be removed once the fracture has completely healed. Don't know that I want to go back in to surgery for that tho.
So if they can do it for humans, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do it for a dog.
