Godspeed Smokie
My niece called me this morning, with the sad news that her shaded silver Persian passed away. He was up there in years and his health had been failing for a while now. He was a beautiful cat, but very elusive around people that he didn't know. Whenever I would visit I would try to win him over, but he wanted no parts of me. He would let me get within a few feet of him, and then he would take off. The only way I was able to get a picture of him, was at a distance. I did get to hold him once - when Linda picked him up and put him in my lap. He tolerated that maneuver, but wasn't at all thrilled! I was hoping to win him over when I got moved down there, but time just ran out. :(
RIP pretty Smokie. I'm sure that Brindle was waiting for you as you crossed over The Bridge. Rest well dear boy ~~~~~ I only wish that I had been able to know you better.

Oh, Smokie, what a pretty cat you are! Rest in peace, darling boy, you are greatly loved.. and on your own terms, too.
Deepest sympathy to you, Ellie, and to your niece and all who love Smokie. He is whole and healthy again, waiting at the Bridge to greet you and welcome you HOME.

Play hard at the Bridge, pretty boy. As said previously "loved on your own terms" - but loved nonetheless. That's what unconditional means.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. I will show my niece this thread when I get to NC. She will be so pleased.
And Smokie was even older than I thought - he was 17. He lived a nice long life :)
