Cali has been "off" since we moved. Had bloodwork done today and it looks like she has hyperthyroidism. I need to collect a urine sample to complete the testing to be sure.
Does anyone have any experience with this? What treatment did you choose?
Cali is my heart kitty, she got me thru the worst times with my chemo.

I'm sorry about Cali's diagnosis, but the good news is that hyperthyroidism is a very treatable disease, and she should be able to live a normal life. She will need regular bloodwork to ensure her thyroid is regulated.
I'm sure the vet gave you all the treatment options.
Most of our clients choose either oral or transdermal methimazole.
One option is food, Hill's y/d. This only works if you can feed Cali separate from your other kitty, because she cannot eat anything else but this diet. If you do research on this food, however, there's some controversy about long-term issues.
The other option is surgery to remove the tumor on the thyroid. It is a permanent fix, no medication needed, but not cheap.
And most expensive solution (also permanent) is radioactive iodine therapy.

Thank you, your comments help a lot. She is my best friend and was the one cuddling with me when I felt lousy after chemo. I've read it is a good plan to do medication for 3 months to see if kidney problems crop up, if all is good then can do the radioactive iodine. I'm thinking this is how we will proceed.
That's good to hear that you already have decided on a treatment for Cali. I think it's the ideal solution, no daily medication.

Have the weekend to contemplate treatment. Believe we'll start with prescription food over medication. Leaving the radioactive iodine for later.
