A funny bit of news trivia today. Politics, ya gotta love it.:D
White House Accidentally E-Mails to Reporters Story That Maliki Supports Obama Iraq Withdrawal Plan
July 19, 2008 1:29 PM
The White House this afternoon accidentally sent to its extensive distribution list a Reuters story headlined "Iraqi PM backs Obama troop exit plan - magazine."
The story relayed how Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told the German magazine Der Spiegel that "he supported prospective U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's proposal that U.S. troops should leave Iraq within 16 months … ‘U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes,'" the prime minister said.
The White House employee had intended to send the article to an internal distribution list, ABC News' Martha Raddatz reports, but hit the wrong button.
The misfire comes at an odd time for Bush foreign policy, at a time when Obama's campaign alleges the president is moving closer toward Obama's recommendations about international relations -- sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, discussing a "general time horizon" for U.S. troop withdrawal and launching talks with Iran.

Both McCain & Obama had to visit Docters today. Obama has a sore hip
and Mccain had to have a spot taken off his face. (he had skin cancer
before). It's been a long, rough campaign.
But he's a talented artist....
lolololololololol.
-------------
Anyone named 'Ludacris', who can't rhyme, can't sing and gets involved in politics has to be talented.
It's also been far too expensive. I read this yesterday in the Boston Globe -
What a complete waste of money; and the robo-calls haven't yet begun. http://bestsmileys.com/talking/17.gifQuote:
The economy might be tanking, but the presidential campaigns are doing their part to help the bottom lines of TV stations and networks.
A monitoring group reported today that Democrat Barack Obama has spent $27 million on TV ads and Republican John McCain another $21 million since Obama clinched the nomination on June 3 and the general election campaign basically started.
The 100,000-plus airings between June 3 and July 26 are far more than the 77,000 during the same period in 2004, when President Bush and Senator John F. Kerry broke all advertising records for a presidential race.
Hi Barack,
First time caller long time listener!
I won a 99 toyota pick up and I have noticed that it kncoks when I start it in the morning, Am I using the right grade of gas? And how many pounds should I inflate my tires to?
------
Dude,
You only get your name on money when you get to be president.
Presumptive? I should say so!
----
I awoke this morning to the staged protest at the BO speech,
Notice-
No one threw the jokers out for disrupting the speech.
The banner stayed there long enough for people to read what the message was-a jab at BO"s apparent 'talking down' to the black community.
The placement of the banner-just in the right place so EVERYONE-camera included, could see it.
HE stops the speech to discuss the problem with the protestors.
I am waiting to see if the 'protestors' are interviewed to see who they were and why they were there.
That was priceless.
Notice that the fainting groupies stopped showing up as soon as the started to become news fodder.;)
He does seem to be acting as if he is already seated in the oval office. I agree Richard - presumptive indeed! It is looking more and more like I will sit this election out. I am a grandmother (how did that happen when I still feel young? ) and I have never done that. Both of these candidates totally TURN ME OFF!! In that case you are supposed to vote for the lesser of two evils. Does that mean they are both evil? :p If so, why should I vote?
It starts with birds and bees. And the Itty Bitty Look that Alan Jackson talks about.;)
Sorry to say that the speech he gave at the Dem Convention years ago and hint that he was the 'up and coming' all went to his head.. His media machine are nothing but a bunch of managers -as opposed to saavy media/political consultants. The pundits that keep harping about his 'coolness' and the fact that he keeps bringing the up his 'differentness' make him seem very pompous and vain.
Instead of playing up the fact that his is 'different', he should be touting himself as 'no different' than any of us. His 'prezidenshul" seal (little homage there to the talented rapper Ludacris - a resident on BO's iPod), His comparing his visage to the people on our currency (Hey joker, you can have your face put on the devalued dollar that your tax hikes will pay for) and the comments about being scared about his name and being black are pretty funny and will guarantee him more and more TV time.
I'm not afraid of BO the person,
It's the person he thinks he is, that gives me doubt.
Exactly. And it would be in keeping with his political ad where he stands up and says "There is no black America, there is no white America, there is just the United States of America." Saying that he is different seems to me to be the opposite of the way he would like us to feel when we see the ad.
I can't help but feel that he has been handled by some pretty slick people to get where he is now. I am not saying he is not intelligent but I can't believe he rose this far on his own, with very little in the way of experience to do the job he is seeking. Pardon me, those of you who are Hannah Montana fans, but I sort of think it is the same kind of thing going on here. She has skyrocketed to fame and I just don't see exceptional talent. When you have clever people shoving your face in front of the masses day in and day out, sometimes that is all that is needed.
Excuse me a minute Pam, but where does he say he's better than any
of us? In fact, I think he says the opposite by saying, in effect, there is
( or should be) NO difference. There should NOT be two Americas, one black
and one white. Our sameness is that we are all Americans.:)
I am not a huge Obama fan. AS you know, he wasn't my first choice for
President at all.:)
Good point Liz. Obama says he is different from other politicians.
The person who made the reference in an above post took it out of context.
Can you imagine a candidate saying..."I am just like the other money-stealing jerks in office right now!"?????
(With all due respect to Senator Stevens....;-))
Touche' and I think that fact should probably scare you. :p
Liz, not better, just different. I was referring to his statement that he would look different than all of the other presidents on our currency. The report that I heard said that he was referring to the fact that he is black. Why point that out if you want to eliminate the differences? Of course, no one today would look like the presidents on our currency! :p
That one was just for you Pam. ;) :D As an Illini I prefer to point out that the only political experience Abraham Lincoln had before being elected president was one term in the Illinois legislature. And he did pretty well in a complex and dangerous time!:D:D
And I think Obama was making a joke about not looking like any president on our money. There are still those who have a problem with his race. I heard some West Virginia voters who said they do not trust people of "the other race" and would not vote for Obama for that reason (at least they didn't bring up his Muslim religion....:rolleyes:)
Today's OC Register (a newspaper to the right of WSJ CSM and Fox News -- put together!) had a editorial about the success of presidents compared to their prior government experience.
Some of the points made in the article - Obama already has more government experience than 3 of the 4 guys on Mount Rushmore. Only Jefferson had more government tenure.
Some of the poorest performing presidents - James Buchanan, Nixon, Andrew Johnson, had extensive government experience.
Teddy Roosevelt had a year as Assistant Navy secretary, 2 years as New York governor and 6 months as vice president.
The writer concluded with a quote from George Bernard Shaw..."Men are wise in proportion, not to their experience, but to their capacity for experience."
Terribly old-fashion of me Liz...but I like my newspaper -- paper and ink.
But I was able to find it on-line for you here... http://www.ocregister.com/articles/y...resident-obama
Thanks for the link Sara. I read the local paper also but it has very little
coverage of political or world news commentary. I must search it out online.
Gosh, I really miss Molly Ivins these days.:( I did find an 2006 column she had written. I re-read it just for the wit & humor.:)

This is too funny - but she does makes some sense.

Good for her!
Paris Hilton just went up a whole lot in my estimation.
Once upon a time there was a Asian restaurant in So Cal named Sam Dang Ting's.
A writer for the Auto Club newsletter, who wrote about the eatery asked the owner about the name of the establishment, and what it meant, the owner told him that it meant the Sam Dang Ting in English.
Politician?
Criminal?
Sam Dang Ting!;)
The Obama plane problem I posted about last month was a lot more serious
than officials made known at the time. Wow, that would have changed
everything.

You'd think that both these idiots would have learned thier lessons about talking to 'men of the cloth'.
Between the stuttering, the amused look on the codger's face and the smarmy pastor's "slickness" I lost interest rather quickly.
Leave it to some self proclaimed religious Cuckoo Clock to put together a self-promoting event at his own 'church'.
Morons.
--------
LOL, did anyone ever find out about the idiots who interrupted the BO speecha a few weeks ago?
-------
Betcha BO had the windows open on the plane and his ears caught the wind....emergency? I should say so!
I'm sorry you feel this way Richard. I have read Rick Warren's book and it gives one plenty of food for thought as to what is important in life and why we are here in the first place. He is a gifted writer and teacher and he and his wife are doing good things for children who have become orphans through HIV/AIDS in Africa. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Story?id=3983833&page=2
I am having trouble with your description of him as a *righteous cuckoo clock.* I guess only in the next life will we able to see who was righteous and who was not. "Judge not lest ye be judged."
I agree that there are many TV preachers today who have no message other than "let's all feel good and get rich." Rick Warren is not one of them. The Evangelical vote is important to both sides so I believe it was important for these two men to open up as to where they stand on some issues that may not seems important to others but are to evangelicals. It was a more personal two hours than we will see in the upcoming debates, and I will be watching those as well.
Pam, I had not heard of Rick Warren before this event, but I was pleasantly
surprised. It was meant to be a conversation on religious values & touched
on some heated moral questions that face this country today. It was very
well done & now I'm glad I didn't blow it off & not watch.
I thought Obama did a good job of talking about his personal convictions
and how Christian teachings influence his world view. McCain, on the other
hand, tended to slip off message & lapse into the old political stump speaches
he perfers to give. All in all, it was helpful & sometimes revealing to see how
they think.
Here in Cah Lee fuh nee ah you have about 13,000 different religions.
After a while you hear of them all and they still don't make any sense at alll-The Fractured Blessed Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ Community Outreach and Botica (Mexican Herbal Pharmacy).
On the 4800 block of Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood there are three different churches within spitting distance of each other. The Scientologist HQ, the Self Realization Church and another church that I never saw opened during seven years of walking by it almost every day.
In a two mile radius there were about 20 different churches that worshipped some sacred body part, saint, god, brain function or miraculous miracle.
--------
I had never heard of Warren before and just thought he was another run of the mill 'pastor'. I should have known something was up when there was no mention of time shares at the religious amusement park he was building!:rolleyes:
One of them being that it is OK to kill babies in the womb? How does he reconcile this with "his Christianity?" Well, I guess it's OK if one chooses to make up their own Christianity as they go along. I think he'd do well to do some reading in *the Book* he says influences his thinking. He didn't get that world view from that Book.
I am a Christian too. I too believe abortion is not the answer. But I also know that if a woman really wants an abortion, she will get one; no matter if it's legal or not. Sometimes going to places that are unsanitary and dangerous.
When you hear of babies being thrown in trash cans and killed by their mothers that's a big hint something is not right in our society. Is it better for a little one to never draw a breath or be born and tortured to death?
A woman who has an abortion has to live with what she has done her entire life and, I believe, for eternity.
My solution is education. I don't mean handing out condoms either. I'd go to the grade schools and get the girls that are 8 or 9 and start teaching them what happens during abortions. Teach them that their actions have coinsequences and show them what those may be.
I'd show films and show the process and what happens to the babies. I'd probably have the kids so scared they wouldn't want sex until menopause. I'd also teach them that if they should get pregnant, they have options like giving the baby up and who to talk to.
I'd also teach them that life is precious and sacred and should not be ended lightly.
You need to teach the girls early because they are getting into trouble early. I myself, could have been a mother at 10 years old. Back then though, we didn't even know what sex was at that age.
We have become a throw away society and have lost touch with feeling for others. Somehow we forget that what we do can hurt other people. (even unborn people)
I don't believe someone who is pro choice necessarily would choose to have an abortion or thinks it is okay, they just want the choice for women.
