It is not too accurate in some ways - it thinks I am in Newton, Kansas! All of Pet Talk could tell you otherwise!
It put exactly where I was and showed me on a map... even gave my telephone area code.
Yep, got everything about me right! That's kind of creepy...
I'm on my cell but it knew what phone and operating system I had. Didn't get my name or area code. My IP is from CA where I'm being connected.
Funny thing, it shows nothing on there for me. Then again, i've hardened my computer as far as I can, so that could be a factor.
A little warning: if a site can find this much information on you by just looking at your IP Address (thats how it finds the majority of the info it shows you), imagine what someone with real skill and determination could do. I suggest looking into how to make your computers more secure ;). (Not trying to scare anyone, and i'm *not* a person that would do something like I mentioned :))
It told me they "don't have the imagery at this zoom level for this region." They don't know my phone number.;)
It only had my IP and area code right, but DE only has one area code, so that was a no-brainer. I'm not where it shows me on the map.
Reggie- what have you done to your computer that keeps that information hidden? Would/could you share it with us?
It shows my location as around 40 miles away from where I really am. Other than that, it shows my area code right on...
I, too, am interested in keeping this information hidden.
I feel so computer illiterate. I know next to nothing besides basic web design...
Now, I am not the paranoid type of person, but could you be verifying some kind of link to your comp by going on this site??
I have talked to some people who were real IT geeks, I also listened to a great radio show, since cancelled, about computers............
One tip I heard about was looking at/sending email.
The "send this to 5 friends" email is some kind of email 'scam'.
Supposedly the email is composed by the "Viagra/lose weight/junk email" scammers that want addresses to send spam to.
The emails have some kind of tracker built in to it. When you send the '5' emails it somehow sends the email addresses you post back to the person who wrote the email.
------------------------------
I am really picky about my email, If I don't know the email address I delete it.
I also empty my spam file often.
I don't send out chain email and only open files from people I know.
I have a little system to 'track' who gets my email address. It works fairly well and it's interesting to see who actually gets it.
Here's how it works.
When I HAVE to put my name in the machine to register for anything, I give them a variation.
O.k....
Charles is for the real stuff.
Any magazine related registry?
CHAS
Contests?
CHUCK
I keep track of all my 'kitteh' registrations/contests by using a "C" as a first
name.
For the way out stuff I used "juan valdez", the guy on the coffee cans as a Nom de Internet.
Of course, your address will give you away, but it is an interesting way to see who is selling your name!
