Dad's Very Ill

I thought you should know. He's been in the hospital since Sunday afternoon. I just got here and he's probably not going to make it. I should have posted sooner but didn't expect this. I made him smile for the first time my mom said, by telling him that Duke had been asking about him. I brought up a pic for him to look at. It will probably be a miracle if he does pull through.

Mom just called. He died about 9:20. It all happened so quickly. I'm just thankful he didn't have to be miserable in a nursing home for who knows how long. So, now begins the difficult process of accepting all this. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

I don't know how much more I can take. Mom fell in her room, hit her arm on the dresser. Ambulance just took her to ER. Thank goodness brother here can go because I've had two hours sleep today after working all night. Please pray for my sanity.

I am so sorry Val. Your Mother is probably exhausted mentally and physically, she is in for a rough couple of days too. She will need some family members to help her with the funeral home and all the details that get in the way of grieving.

I have only just read this thread and am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad and your Mum's fall - I hope she is okay.

Having lost my Dad almost a year ago I can totally relate to all you are feeling right now. People told me then the old chesnut that "time is a great healer" and although I could quite cheerfully have thumped them at the time it turns out to be true...........You will get through this and be able to look back at the good times however impossible that might seem right now.

Oh I'm sorry your mom fell and got hurt too! I hope she will be okay. Just remember to take care of yourself in all of this too, you don't need to get sick on top of everything else. Val, this is Slick, posting under ES's name. I just want you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I lost my Dad in 1995 and I know the pain associated with it. What helped me immensely is talking about him. I remember two days after he passed, my Mom, my Grandmother and myself were sitting around Mom's living room and we talked about Dad and told stories. We laughed as we remembered some of the jokes he pulled on relatives. I know that it helped with the healing process.

I wanted to thank you all for your kind words. Friends and family are so important in times like these. Quite a few of my buddies from my shift showed up yesterday. That really made me feel good. Mom's arm is broken good. If it doesn't start showing signs of getting well in the next three weeks, she'll have to have an operation for a metal shoulder joint. Please pray that she heals naturally! It's rough enough as it is right now. Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers.
