I'm back from my trip, but it's way to warm to run the team today, plus I try to avoid running on Sunday afternoons. So we just went for walkies!

The scene as I leave the yard--"HEY what about us?" The fence is farther away than it looks in the pic. They can't jump it.

Pacer and Paxil went first. Pacer is actually faster than her, but leading isn't something he can do, even off leash!

Of course, Daisy tagged along too.

Pacer does love a chance to stretch his legs out.

Happy boy!

Daisy was happy to go for a walk too. I'm sure her owner hasn't taken her out while I was away!
More pics coming. ...

Hobo and Earle running on the trail. Please ignore the red spots on Earle's legs. They are self-inflicted sores from licking. He does it whenever one of us is away. He hasn't licked since I got home so they should be healed up soon.

Happy, Happy Hobo! Course he was this happy in the yard too. It doesn't take much to thrill Hobo!

Earle having a great time on the lake.

Heyoka did not want to come. Too much like work for him!

Sundin--"Call me when you are hooking up a team. I'll come along for that."

Preacher prefered to catch some rays at home!

that's all for now!

Wow, you must sled, right?

That sounds so cool. The one I like best is Pacer. He's so hansome. As you live in northern Canada, and race dogs, I was wondering whether you have seen "8 below"?

Now that I've seen the rest of your photos I have to admit... Pacer is cute, But I think I like Preacher, Sundin, Heyoka, Earl, and Hobo more.

Once again...Cool

Nope and I probably won't for a number of reasons--the first being it's not even playing here yet! We are often a month or more behind getting movies here.

Great photos!

Hobo and Pacer look like right little characters!

Pacer has just come out of his shell in the last 9 months or so enough to show his "character" side! Hobo is just a wing nut! His nickname is "Psycho Puppy". He answers to that as well as he does to Hobo. I keep waiting for him to start to slow down. He is 9 years old now, but he shows no signs of leaving his puppyhood yet!

I enjoyed every single picture!! :D Thanks sooo much for sharing! Your doggies are so beautiful.. they really are true blue sled dogs, aren't they?? :D

Here's a weird question..

Do they howl at the moon? lol

When I lived in the country, our neighbours had a sled team and they howled every single night. It was really beautiful! I really miss living next to them.. they were the sweetest dogs I have ever met. :) It almost felt like you were part of their pack..

Ok.. Now I want a Husky.....

Yup, mostly at the full moon. They are nutty on full moon nights. They also howl at the Northern Lights. They answer the coyotes and wolves too. They usually have a group howl 3 times a day--early morning, after dinner and around 10pm.

Welcome Back Glacier!! We've missed you. We can certainly tell the pups have too! Great pics. I can't believe those self inflicted lick wounds of Earle's. Poor baby. Don't worry sweetie, Mom is back so you won't have any more stress! He does look ecstatic now :D

Welcome back Glacier! Sooo nice to see some of your pack again-- especially Hobo, I just seem to have a soft spot for him! And handsome Earle looks like he's feeling alot more energetic. The meds must be doing him good. I'll bet everyone's glad to see you back - how did Stuart make out with his hand and all?

That's so neat!
Do you ever have problems with wolves (or other wildlife) coming after the dogs?

I thought maybe that first picture was them all welcoming you home. :) I bet it looked pretty much like that when they saw you coming. The pups are all looking great, and I just cannot get enough of Hobo and his happy dance. :)

Do you ever have problems with wolves (or other wildlife) coming after the dogs?

Every winter a few dogs are killed by wolves in this area. February 21 will mark two years since Hobo was attacked by a wolf in our yard. No problems since we put the full perimeter fence up.

how did Stuart make out with his hand and all?

He did alright. He had some help chopping meat for them a couple times. One of the first things he said to me was "you do a lot of work out there!"

I just love it when you post pics of your dogs Glacier!!! I have to say, besides my cousin Todd, you are inspiring me to dog sled (my parents are often discouraging me)! I have to ask this, where do you get most of your dogs? I am guessing the dog shelter there, but please, correct me if I am wrong!

Bet those dogs were VERY happy to see you back, sure looks like it:D

I love the fact that they have group howls, I bet that's awsome to hear. Every once in a while I play back that sound bite you posted of them howling, I just love that!

Thanks for all the pictures, I was starting to miss your pack:D

Yup, Mac is here. He hangs out in Raven's pen most of the time. He gets his off-leash runs when I take the team out. Mac often runs loose with us. He's a great early warning system. He always lets me know when there's something up ahead and he chases loose dogs away from Franklin!

15 of them are former shelter dogs. We used to foster a lot of long term shelter residents who ended up becoming permanent additions. Most of them had been at the shelter for at least a year. Goldie was there for over two years!

Of the other 8, Muskwa and Earle are the only two who aren't rescues/re-homes of some sort. I stole Bandit from an old neighbor. Sundin, Paxil, Pingo, Hobo, and Sleet all came from other mushers who didn't want them anymore.

That's so neat- do you have any pictures of them howling? I think that is one of the most interesting canine behaviors. I've tried everything to try to get my dogs to howl, playing wolves, dogs, and coyotes howling so I can get it on video, but the only time they ever howl is when they test the fire siren once a month at the station down the road.

Your dogs are beautiful, it's always nice to see pictures of them.

Welcome back!!! Hope you enjoyed your holiday!!! It's obvious that the doggies missed you terribly. So nice to see photos of the group. Love seeing your doggies. Hobo looks squirrly as ever, but I'd love to give him a big hug. Please give them all a big hug and kiss from me!!! :D

Okay, thanks for answering! Goldie is a lucky that you decided to foster her, that is a really long time to be in a shelter

I can't wait for the next round of pics:D

It is a very long time and it's had some impacts on Goldie. She's more than a little neurotic--won't walk on a leash, only goes out certain gates, runs a pattern around her pen, and no way, no how is she ever getting caught inside a building again. She hates coming inside; acts like I'm going to torture her if she comes in the door! Some of the other dogs had similar issues. Raven was in the shelter for a year. She paced in a square exactly the size of her kennel for months. She still does when she is stressed or nervous. Founder wouldn't come inside at all for over a year. Now he sleeps in the porch, but he keeps a clear path between him and the door at all times. He doesn't want to get trapped inside.
