I just took Callie to the vet for her annual vaccinations and her vet diagnosed her with having a heart murmur. :( She is doing a complete blood panel to determine if it is caused by her thyroid, if not, she is referring us to the vet school to have a cardiologist take a look at her.

She is my heart kitty. I don't know what I'm going to do if it is really severe and cannot be treated with medication. She's turning six on Saturday. :( :(

Sarah ~ If course we'll keep you and Callie in our prayers. But, please don't worry so. Callie will probably be around for many, many years.
Did the vet rank the murmur? Our vet told us that they are given a number - from 1 to 6 -- 6 being the worst. Our Pepper is a 6. No medication will help. Unless they come up with a kitty heart transplant.....

But, Pepper is going strong after 3 years. She's never been sick. She plays until she exhausts us all. She leaps to the top of doors, climbs shower curtains, jumped off the 2nd floor balcony, tangled with a cat 3 times her size and won (20-pound "Princess" has never shown herself in our yard since being smacked by 6-pound Pepper). So, keep the faith. There is hope.

Positive vibes for your puss. My tortie (also Cally) had a heart murmur and lived to be 14. She's next to the bunny in my siggie

Prayers and good thoughts headed your way.

Our Duffy was diagnosed with a murmur several years ago. All labs were normal. He had a Cardiac Ultrasound - it showed that Duffy just gets upset when he goes to the Vet and his murmur kicks on. No meds - no problems. I have also had a murmur all my life. It's just there.

Prayers for Callie are heading her way!!!!
Our Riley was discovered to have a murmur at 8 months and will be 6 in August. He has never been on any meds. The last ultrasound was done in October and showed NO changes. Ralph Syracuse also has a murmur. It is a Grade 3/4. Sometimes I can hear it when I listen with a stethscope. BUT he is not on any meds. This murmur was discovered last summer. Ralph will be 14 in June!!! So there is a good chance that Callie may not need meds and will live a long life!!!!

Thank you all for your kind words. I was a bit hysterical at the vets but have managed to calm down. I just love her more than anything and want her to live a very long, long life. The vet did not tell me what level of murmur she had; just that is was loud.

I will let you know about the blood panel tomorrow.
