For the Newer Pet Talkers, and anyone else who hasn't seen the
sometimes "lengthy" posts devoted to Planning these Events,
and the always enjoyable "Reports" (complete with extensive
Photo Coverage) of the Events ~

Here's a capsule summary of What Goes On:

We "Gather" at the very nice Hancock County Park District "Dog Park" in the
north-western corner of OHIO.
Facilities include:

* A 2-acre fully fenced OFF-leash Dog Park - with picnic tables, running water,
a few shade trees, grass, a lil mud, a collection of toys & balls -
a fine place to let a Friendly Pooch *romp* with other dogs.

* And 100 feet away ~ An enclosed (on two sides) Covered Picnic Pavilion
with concrete floor, picnic tables to seat 90 or so, electrical outlets,
2 charcoal grills - and enough Food & Covered Dishes to feed a mid-sized army!
(We NEVER go away hungry!!)
We Reserve and Rent the Pavilion - so there's no risk of it being "occupied"
by anyone except our Pet Talk Gang.

* Within 500 feet - there are two CLEAN Rest Rooms ~ OK, they don't *flush* -
but they ARE "clean", have concrete floors, and locking doors!

* A large, paved parking lot is within sight of the Dog Park and Pavilion.

* Many wooded Trails through the beautiful Park are available, but most
Folks hang with the Gang in the Dog Park or at the Pavilion.

* Food is casual / picnic stuff - everyone brings a lil extra to share - and as
said before - ya won't be hungry when you leave!

We can't stress enough that EVERYone is More than Welcome!!
We were all "strangers" when we came to our "first one" - and most everyone
who has been to one keeps coming back!

About the only "REQUIREMENT" is that the DOGS have to be "Registered"
to enter the Dog Park area.
Not a "big deal" - but it's da LAW!
If anyone is coming that has dogs that aren't "Registered" with Hancock PARKS -
it costs $10 - for up to THREE Dogs - and is good for the entire year.
PM me at "Cinder & Smoke" and I'll fill you in on the Registration procedures -
allow about 10 days to send for and receive your Permit.

If you're still "not sure" -
take a look at some of out Past Gathurins in these threads >>>

Last Spring's Memorial Day Gathurin - May 29, 2005 >>>
http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=77616&page=1&pp=10

Labor Day (2004) Gathurin (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55388&highlight=Findlay)

Memorial Day (2004) at Findlay (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48146&highlight=Findlay)

Memorial Day (2003) Gathurin (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25713)

As you can see - we've been "Doing these Gathurings" for several years -
and "The Gang" keeps getting bigger -
so <YOU> will Fit Right IN!!

Please meet us in Findlay on May 28th!!

I'm going to try really, really hard to go to one this year. However, it will probably be at a later date (Labor Day or some other time in the Fall).

I'm not quite sure I'll actually be able to make it ... but will definitely try.
IF I stay at the same job, I'll have a new boss to contend with.
IF I change jobs (cross your fingers, please), I'll have to see what their vacation, etc. policy is.
And either way, I'll have to see how fat (right now it's anorexic :o ) the pocketbook is.

Hope you guys have a ton of fun! :D Don't forget the cameras!!

Yay, I've been waiting for this thread. I've been wanting to come for years & this is my year!

Kaige will probably be the only dog I bring though. Nanook is just too old & Raustyk is sometimes not dog friendly.

If anyone has a room open or is interested in sharing a hotel room or camping site let me know.

You know what... I'll talk to my dad about this one. If we go again I'd love to camp. We usually borrow my boss' pop-up camper that has 3 beds in it. As long as you think Kaige would be okay in canvas walls.

I'll probably only bring Kiara and Nala or just Kiara. Simba really doesn't enjoy the dog park anymore.

Thats fine, I would probably stay in my tent as I am not sure how kaige would do w/ canvas walls. I am almost sure he would be fine but If I camp I'll be crating him just in case. We could at least share a site though.

How do we go about registering for the dog park?

Here are *links* to two Hancock Parks District web pages;

The first link has a brief "Tail" about the Dog Park in the
Area #9 Write-Up - which covers the Riverbend Recreation Area. >>>

http://www.hancockparks.com/parks.htm (http://www.hancockparks.com/parks.htm)

And here is the *link* to see and PRINT the
Dog Park Yearly Permit Application >>>

http://www.hancockparks.com/dogpark-app.pdf (http://www.hancockparks.com/dogpark-app.pdf)

NOTE: You Must Have "Adobe Acrobat Reader" installed on
your 'puter to Load & See this .pdf file...
If you don't have Adobe Reader -
I guess PM Me at "Cinder & Smoke" and we'll get you a form.

Note 2: The Application is TWO Pages long -
be SURE to Print Page 1 AND Page 2;
Page 2 is a WAIVER that Must Be Signed & Returned -
and is at the Very BOTTOM of page 2. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/wink.gif

What you need to SEND IN with the Application is >>

1) CHECK made out to Hancock Parks Foundation with
Memo to: Dog Park Permit

2) COPY (originals won't be returned) of the Dog's

. . (A Copy of the Office Visit Receipt is fine if the SHOTS
. . are noted & has Vet's Name on it).
. . DATE needs to be within ONE Year of now.

3) COPY of RABIES Vaccination Receipt ...
. . DATE within 1 or 3 years - depending on the vaccine used;
. . Most Rabies Receipts show an EXPIRATION date for the shot -
. . Rabies Vacc must be "current" (not expired).

4) All Dogs must also be "Licensed" by the City, Town, County,
or State where you LIVE. Fido should be *wearing* his/her License.

A note about the "DATES" shown on your Receipts ~
Parks is "happy" if the Dates on the Vet & Rabies Receipts are
"Current" within the LAST 12 Months of when you send them in...

he's Good to Go!

Does anyone know about how much it would cost to drive from North Florida (Tallahassee) to Findlay and stay up there? Just an estimate ... I have lots of money saved up but I don't want to spend a bunch of it. :p And if I can't come there's always next year.

Sue - I'm interested in camping also, so if I come, count me in!

Just curious about food.
I assume thats decided upon closer to the date?
It says to bring a little extra, does that mean to bring a full meal with a little extra to share or just a dish to pass?

And for the dogs, Are they any dogs going that have certain food allergies? (I am not saying why). lol

Well I am off to read about the appliation for the dog park. (does little happy dance)

I hope all of you are able to come, that would be so awesome!

Of course, we will be there:D

And as to your food question, everyone usually brings a dish (or chips, pop or something like that). But since your coming from out of state we sure don't expect you to cook anything! Just bring whatever your able to.

karen & paul, will you be passing us, me & lvdogs? if so, maybe we can carpool! *does little happy dance* :p  where do you plan to stay at anyway? I remember you had to have a computer at hotel last year.. :D

mmm, any of you know ASL? (america sign language or at least some fingerspellings?)

Kfamr
02-16-2006, 08:57 PM
Gina, All I know is how to spell my name and say "My Pleasure."

There is a hearing impaired couple who use ASL and it is our company policy to say "My Pleasure" after a customer thanks us - the husband can hear quite a bit and read lips well, so he tells us thank you and everything - We learned how to say "My Pleasure" in finger spellings just for them. :)

Thanks for thinking of us. :)

Kia's allergy is either to beef, chicken, or both. We've never been able to nail it down.

But treats now and then containing those products are okay. I primarily buy her lamb or peanut butter treats but the real small soft chicken and beef treats are great for training.

So even I boo boo. :o

Hmm, maybe I should take a drive over there. I live near Chicago and just checked how far it is. It says a little less than 5 hours. Not bad at all. I'll have to check my funds and see if I could make it.

I think I might feel funny since I have never met anyone from PT before, but I still want to go. There has to be a first time!

Next question would be who to bring with?!? Sylvia hates the car and can't be away from my dad for more than a normal work day, so she's out. Harley, Morty and Jimmy are good in the car with Morty being the best with it. When I rescued Jimmy we drove 8-9 hours with him in his carrier, but coming out for walks every 2 hours, so I know I can get there ok with him. I think I'd like to take Harley though. Something to think about. :) Any requests?

Diana, I love all of your pups but I HAVE to meet Morty if I come. Shhh.. don't tell the other 2 but he is my favorite other than Sylvia who can't come. ;)

Mind you, Findlay meetings are usually fully of medium-large dogs, so bring who you think would have most fun around bigger pups!

Morty's foster mom said his best friend was a big dog :). None of them regularly see big dogs. My friend brought his golden over a few days ago and in the past. She's about 70lbs and none of my pups have a problem with her. Maybe he will come with me and bring her too!

I don't know for sure if I can make it, but I'd want to bring Harley because I hate for him to miss out on stuff. Somehow he knows, I swear, but I know Morty would be good on a trip (he's not even good at home!) Maybe I should bring both!

There are a ton of hotels quite nearby in Findlay, it'll take a little searching to figure out which ones are pet-freindly, but there are a myriad of choices! Miss Hoppy stays home to guard the house, so we've never had to find out for ourselves, but I know Cinder and Smokey's dad knows at least one!

There are a ton of hotels quite nearby in Findlay,
it'll take a little searching to figure out which ones are pet-freindly,
but there are a myriad of choices!

OH, so true!

"Most" of the $75.00 a night or less motels allow "pets" - you just have
to double-check their definition of what a "pet" is ...

Some have "size limitations" - anywhere from 10# up to unlimited;
some say only ONE pet per room;
some say "with permission" - then try to trick you into paying $5.00 per pet
extra when you tell them at the desk you have a pet with you.

Three GOOD chains that the Three FurKids have all stayed at are:
Red Roof Inns,
Super 8,
Motel 6. (Motel 6 is 30 and 35 miles away from Findlay)

Prices have varried between $35 - $45 per night - depending on the City and
the Date - Local Events sometimes push UP the price quite a bit.

Red Roof and Super 8 both have "under $45 a night" rooms for one adult -
and up to Three Dogs - IF you talk to the right person!
I usually call the CHAIN's main 1-800 number and swing the best "deal" they'll
go for and then make an un-secured reservation - then ask for the
direct phone number for the motel itself.

Next step is to call the motel front desk and try to "beat the deal" the chain's
1-800 people agreed to.

Last step is to pick the lower rate quote and cancel the high priced room.
"USUALLY" the Motel's Front Desk beats the 1-800 folks by at least $5 ---
and have agreed to "three small mutts" staying in the room.

Best bet is to shop around by phone -
the Web Sites do NOT always offer the cheapest rates!

Does anyone know how long it would take to drive from Maine? Do you have to go through NY to get there? Me and mom were going to go somewhere this summerish...I might see about going here...but I think we might end up going to Alberta.

Do you think it would be easier to drive through Canada then go through the states? (I live in PEI)

Karen
03-02-2006, 01:23 PM
It depends on from where in Maine.

It is about a 13 hour drive for us from Massachusetts, we travel west usually through New York State. I don't know the Canadian highway system enough to know whether it's be better going mostly through Canada or not, when we take the "northern" route, we pass by Niagara Falls, which is of course on the Canadian border.

Have you tried mapquest.com?

Audrey, I did a real quick Streets and Maps query and from the middle of Maine to Findlay, OH is 1020 miles. About a two day drive.

Karen
03-17-2006, 10:53 AM
We usually do the drive all in one day, and we're just 1 1/2 to 5 hours from most points in Maine.

Hey, you know cat folks and others are welcome to come, too! After all, we have a bunny, and no dogs presently, and we come! The dogs are always willing to mooch off anyone handing out treats, regardless of their current animal affiliations.

Oh GUDDIE, the *link* still works.

OK - Here's how to get your MapQuest "Directions" with Turn-by-Turn Instructions ...

Use the Click-Link (below) to get to the From and To page for MapQuest.
**WAIT** till the page fully loads - or you'll goof up the pre-filled data!!

When the page finishes loading - you'll have TWO big data blocks -
the one on the LEFT asking for your STARTING Location;
the one on the RIGHT >> Already FILLED IN < with the Dog Park Address.

If you have it - do NOT use Microsoft's "AutoFill" - it will put your home address
in BOTH blocks - erasing http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif the pre-filled Dog Park Address! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/mad.gif

JUST fill in your Home or "Starting" address in the LEFT (STARTING Location) Blocks.

Here's the *Link* to MapQuest >>>

MapQuest Directions To: Findlay, OH ~ DOG PARK (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?2a=16000 Township Road 208&2c=Findlay&2s=OH&2z=45840&2y=US&cid=lfddlink)

NOTE!! for ROBIN and anyone else driving North from the Columbus, Ohio, vicinity!!! >>>

MapQuest tries to send you the "short way" using a bridge near the Reservoir
that has been closed for two years!!
It's being rebuilt as we speak - but not scheduled to re-open before Memorial Day.

CHECK your MapQuest "directions" - if you're routed over US-23 and OHIO-15 -
we need to "talk" before you drive - there are NO "Detour Signs" at the closed bridge!
I'll send you a "revised" MapQuest that gets you around the closed bridge.

Robin:
If you can't find last year's directions - let me know and I'll send you a new copy
of the "around the closed bridge" route.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

IF you want to use a GPS or another Mapping Service - here's the Dog Park Address:

16000 Township Road 208 -OR-
Township Road 207 AND Township Road 208
Findlay, OH 45840

The Dog Park is INside the Hancock Park District's "Riverbend Recreation Area";
about a mile south of Ohio Route 568;
and just north of the North-East Corner of the big Findlay Reservoir.
The Reservoir is on most maps - and stands out because it is drawn as a
Big SQUARE Blue Lake;
south-east of downtown Findlay.

If ANYONE has trouble with the Route to the Dog Park - PM "Cinder & Smoke"
with your E-mail and Home/Starting Address.

It's good to know any local closed roads, detours, etc.

There's not SUPPOSED http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/rolleyes.gif to be any hang-ups other than the busted bridge
that carries Twp Road 207 over the Blanchard River EAST of the Reservoir.
That closure is only about 2 miles from the Dog Park. Robin and I are the
only ones I know are bothered by that detour (Staci comes via the back roads).

Folks routed either north or south on I-75; or on Ohio-12 or Ohio-224 should
have no "major" interruptions ...
I-75 will have construction all summer - but traffic should be flowing A-OK over
the Memorial Day Weekend - they won't be working.

But no matter how you come or what routes you follow - PAY Attention to the
highway signs you pass - remember the Mapping Sites (MapQuest, Yahooo, Google)
and your GPS do NOT know about and plan for road or bridge repair closures!
If the SIGN says the road or bridge is closed - Please FOLLOW the Detour!!

Any questions - or you think you're being sent the wrong way - PM me.

To anyone coming up Rt. 23 from Columbus - just stay on Rt. 23 and get off at the Carey exit.
Rt. 23 goes right through Carey. In the center of town, turn left onto 568 (at the gas station), & STAY on Rt. 568. It's about 10 miles or so, and the Riverbend Park will be on your left - you'll see the sign & that iron trestle bridge that crosses the creek into the park.
This is the easiest way from Columbus, no turns, no detours. Just Rt. 23 to Rt. 568.
If anyone would like my phone number, please pm me. I only live about 10 minutes from the dogpark. If you get lost locally, we'll get you there.

As long as she gets along with other dogs, she'll be fine. There are usually dogs of all sizes at the park, and if she gets intimidated, she can always hang out with the people at the picnic table!

The park it is held in is a huge, beuatiful park system with trails and stuff, but we tend to spend the whole day between the dog area and the pavillion we rent out! Oh, we'd love to have you guys come, and I promise Hugito will get lots and lots of hugs and kisses! 4 Dog Mom would be best to PM about what else is in the area that might lure hubby into coming, she and Cyber-sibes live nearby!

Lobodeb, it's not a bad drive along the lake from Chicago. Dogs of all sizes seem to all get along. plus, I've noticed that those little dogs are QUITE capable of taking care of themselves! They're the ones that back off the bigger dogs! There's alot of smaller local dogs that may be around, too. Several beagles, chihuahuas, and jack russels come to the park.

Hmm, not much going on in Findlay, - Cincy's Mom lives inToledo, there may be more going on up there. 4-dog mother Diana has lived here a long time, she might know more.Findlay's just a quiet community, with some nice restaurants. There is a wonderful museum of illustration art from children's picture books over at the University. I can check on when they'll be open, if you're interested.

Is Perrysburg close to Findlay?

Did you post then delete this question??

Answer depends on how you define "close"! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/tongue.gif

Perrysburg is 43 miles (about 52 driving minutes) due NORTH of the Dog Park at Findlay.

Perrysburg is just South of the Ohio Turnpike and sits between I-75 and I-475.
It's pretty easy to get form Perrysburg onto I-75 and zip south to the Dog Park -
just allow an Hour to drive it.

You can use
http://www.Mapquest.com (http://www.mapquest.com/)
to research motel locations and the routing to the Dog Park ...
OR - Go back a few posts and use the *LINK* I posted to MapQuest -
all you need to enter is a "Starting Address" - can be your home or a Motel.

:D This is going to be a great pic-nic! If any of you out of towners would like to get together in Findlay for dinner or something Saturday night, pm me, ok? Not sure when anyone's arriving, but I asked for Sat. night off work, just in case.

Hello all! I have been away from PT so long, it's making me sad :( Thanks to lv4dogs I found out about this Findlay meeting! Ever since moving to Kentucky I've been hoping I'd get a chance to make it up to one of the infamous meetings... looks like this may be the one :D I talked to my better half, he seemed excited about it, so you can most likely count us in! We have been planning on taking a camping trip up in Ohio anyway, so why not do it that weekend? :D It feels good to be posting on PT again and I hope I get the chance to meet some of you!

BTW, I know this isn't the right thread to start this in, but we've got a new addition since I was last on PT. Meet BUTLER (http://www.catster.com/?214171) :)

Wow! What gorgeous puppers! Yep, Gabbie is a merle. And I just met another lady with an absolutely beautiful harlequin dane puppy at the Findlay dog park on Thursday! I'm hoping she will come, too. I'll keep an eye out for her in the next few weeks. Last year, Dakota (4-dog mother's grandog)was also at the picnic & led all those crazy huskies on a wild goose chase! Not sure if she'll make it this year.

I am actually from Wharton, its about 15 miles south of Findlay. I go to the Pet Supplies Plus every other weekend to get dog supplies, and go shopping no and again. I am not a member of the dog park just yet. I just actually found out about it last week. I would like to become a member, I am looking into it. That would be great to meet for a playdate, when I am a member. Weekends would be best for me.

Anything picnicy! Phred and other "menfolk" usually work the grill, so there's burgers and that grillable kinda stuff, and salad stuff and, oh, all sortsa food!

Phred always brings cookies, and I will as well - I always make sure at least one kind I bring is shareable with the pups!

We're not sure yet. We're planning on doing some backpacking up in Ohio that same weekend (probably on Friday and Saturday), ideally around the Cincinnati area, but we haven't worked out any details yet. We've never done a backpacking/camping trip up in Ohio so we still have some research to do. We might end up staying one night at the campground at the park, but we still have to work out all the details. It would be kind of cool to have a PT camping night! :D We prefer the wilderness, but if we do end up camping in an actual campground it will more than likely be the one at the park in Findlay. I'll keep you posted; feel free to PM me as well :)

Nice to meet you as well. Thanks for the compliments on our pupkids, we just love them to pieces. Although we don't breed they are just our pets/kids. I just love Golden Retrievers they are awesome dogs as well. And I also have two cats, they just give unconditional love all the time. :-)

I've been wondering about what to bring as well. I know I'm pitching in on the b-day cake and bringing some ultra yummy dog treats but as far as people food goes I'd love to bring some yummy salad or the like BUT I'm driving from out of state & I'm also going to be away from home for 6-10 days as I'll be visiting some other areas while I'm out that way. I don't want anythign to spoil or get squished and I'm also not sure what stores or the like are in the area. I'm not one who usually brings some "genaric" snack to any gathering but this time I think I will have to. I guess It'll probably end up being some sort of chips & possibly some drinks too. Then though I am worried that many others from out of the area will bring the same items & we'll have too much of one thing & not enough of another. :p

Phred posts a Who's Bringing what kinda thing -
that way everyone sees what the other is bringing and what we may still needhttp://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/smile.gif

Since we have so many "Newbies" coming ... I'll post "The Menue" early to
give folks an idea of what we've had in the past.

The Pavilion has lots of nice, large, heavy duty Picnic Tables (prolly seats 100 or so),
a "buffet counter", multiple Electrical Outlets, an overhead light, 2 charcoal grills (outside),
a concrete floor, and is enclosed on the two sides that get the prevailing winds.
There is NO "refrigeration" other than ice chests you might bring.
(And there's NO ice vending machine within a 20 minute drive! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/frown.gif )

Do a *search* for past Findlay Gathurins - there's tons of pictures of Past Gathurins -
we've be doing them for several years http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

Here's a *link* to the 2005 Memorial Day Gathurin >>>

We live about 15 miles south of Findlay, Ohio. I was recommened to this site by a lady at the petstore by the name of Carrie I believe she is owned by a beautiful female merle by the name of Gabby. I am so excited for my pups to meet other pupfriends. We live out in the middle of nowhere, so they don't have much friends. :(

I was going through my files and found this- thought you all might enjoy it- it's the video my son made at the Findlay PT picnic last year. I think he did a great job. It's Dakota the dane leading the whole pack of huskies (plus others) on a wild chase around the park, make sure you have the sound up! Enjoy! :D

Sue:
Your Permit "should be in the mail!" http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/rolleyes.gif

They "found" your application in the pile waiting to be keyed into the puter;
so that means they "processed" it within the last few days - and they should
have already mailed out the Permit Card.

you might want to call up there and double check - I am not sure how old Trinity is but they reccomend that dogs under 16 weeks of age not be inside the fence - you could still bring her of course - and you could hang out outside the fence - that's what some do that have aggressive dogs.

You can FAX the paperwork and Vaccination Records ...
but I doubt they'll accept a FAXed $10 Bill! :p

And they won't be sending your Permit till they GET that $10.00!

Just mail the stuff - but do it SOON!

Just include a note with the paperwork saying that you'll be visiting the Dog Park
over Memorial Day weekend - and to please send the Permit "ASAP".

(Trinity) She just turned 5 months old on the 9th of April.

http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/confused.gif
Most Vets suggest puppies have their "DHLP-P" or "Five-in-One" disease
vaccinations in 3 shots given at 6, 10, and 14-16 weeks of age.

The first Rabies Vaccination is usually given with the third DHLP-P shot at 16 weeks. (4 months)

Most County Health Departments (the outfits that demand Rabies Vaccinations
be given to ALL dogs visiting or living in Ohio) require the first Rabies shot be
given at 16 weeks of age.

There won't be any "deals" made by the Parks Office - you'll have to SHOW them
a copy of a Vet-signed Rabies Receipt, describing the dog, BEFORE they will
issue a permit.

The rules help protect Trinity - *IF* she should *nip* someone - the laws
say she has to be put down and tested for Rabies http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif .
WITH a valid Rabies Veccination, the dog only has to be quarrantined -
usually in your home.

Staci is correct with the 16 week MINIMUM age to enter the Dog Park -
that age comes from the minimum age for a Rabies Shot.
AND - most Vets discourage young'uns from going into public places where
there may be UN-vaccinated dogs - puppies aren't fully protected from
the "Big Five" Diseases (DHLP-P) until they get ALL the puppy and booster shots.

I wouldn't bring Trinity to either the Dog Park or the Picnic area unless she's
had ALL the puppy shots and the first Rabies shot.
But you DO have time to get her shots and the Permit.

I am awaiting Trinity's dog license ...

I forgot to answer this part of your post ...

No one needs to "send a copy" of their dog's LICENSE to Hancock Parks -
just be sure the pooch is WEARING their License and Rabies Tags.

A current "County License Tag", worn along with a current Rabies Tag, will keep
your dog SAFE and out of trouble anywhere in Ohio and when visiting in most other States.

Most Dog Wardens and city or county dog Pounds will research the origin of a
dog's TAGS and place a call to that jurisdiction to determine who a lost dog belongs to.

Gina, All I know is how to spell my name and say "My Pleasure."

There is a hearing impaired couple who use ASL and it is our company policy to say "My Pleasure" after a customer thanks us - the husband can hear quite a bit and read lips well, so he tells us thank you and everything - We learned how to say "My Pleasure" in finger spellings just for them.

awesome they had that policy! I wish everyone everywhere could have that, would be nice to communicate. so, you don't know the other 14 letters? ;)

one thing though kay (and karen!), hearing impaired - maybe a very few wouldn't mind that phrase, (mostly to people who could hear at least a little) but please be aware most of us (who don't hear at all) would feel offended. we prefer deaf. (or hard of hearing for whose are sonically challenged too). I understand you didn't undermine us, I thought I'd educate you all a bit. :) just that word, makes me feel like I'm really disabled. :p
- (to understand better, please take a look here (http://www.nad.org/site/pp.asp?c=foINKQMBF&b=103786)) -

Cats at the park????

I am transporting the kitten I rescued to his new home in Ohio after the PT meeting. He will be 8 weeks old then and is so far very well mannered. He will have his first set of shots by then and I will have Kaige's crate for him to be confined in. If it is not too hot out AND I have my van I can keep him in the van during the cay. But if it is hot out he'd have to be out to prevent heat poinsoning. Because of all the strange dogs I will obviously not be bringing him out of his crate.

Will this be a problem at all?

Cats at the park????

Your Kitty won't be the First PT Kitty to attend a DAWG Park Gathurin!

We've had at least two kitties - Donna's MooShoo has been there,
and another small kitten spent quite a bit of time down on the grass in a pen -
and never got too riled up with some of the Dawgs giving a *sniff* or two.

There's plenty of picnic tables under the Pavilion -
with room to place the Kitty's Kat-O-Prison in a shady or breezy spot as required.

And the KAT won't need a Park Permit! :p

I suggest e-mailing or calling the park. I e-mailed them and a lady replied back telling me she'd send the permit today (e-mailed her yesterday.) I just got the information and $ in the mail yesterday, so she sent it so it'll get here before I leave.

So excited so many newbies are coming! What about Adele? I know it's bad to play favorites but she is my favorite of your's. :) ;)

I would like to bring all my dogs, but Marta is the only one who enjoys long car rides. (The furthest I've ever taken Adele is 5 hours, this will be an 8 hour drive, but maybe if my mom comes too it will be a bit easier to entertain her). Thanks for the suggestion! I'll call the park on Thursday, my next day off. I'm excited about getting to meet everyone and their dogs of course!! :D

Hmm, that is a bit odd. I sent my application in on May 1st, and received my pass on Monday (May 8th). But I did tell them that I needed it for an event at the end of the month, so they may have expedited my request.

I'm planning all my routes today and noticed that all mapquest, google & yahoo maps are all one hour from each other. They say anywhere from 6 hours 47 minutes to 8 hours 52 minutes, from my house to the motel in Findlay. Thats quite a big difference don't ya think? The routes are all pretty similar too. I always knew they each had their own quirks but I've never seen them vary this much before, ever & I use them all the time. Maybe I'll stick to my old fashioned ways & use the good old USA Atlas.

Sue, I've always found mapquest to be more reliable.

It seems to be updated more often than Yahoo. With yahoo, they had use going all around town to get somewhere. It took us about a hour to get thru town and to where we wanted to go. On our way back we realized we could have gotten on the highway right next to our hotel and been there in 10 minutes.

I compared MapQuest and Google from Macedon to the Dog Park.

Overall distance was a 2 mile difference;
MapQuest said you could do it in 6 hours + 50 minutes = average of 58 mph;
Google said to allow 8 hours = average of only 50 mph.

They each pick a different way to get through Cleveland and the western suburbs -
and there's no "good way" to do that! MapQuest puts you on the Ohio Turnpike
(toll road) a little sooner. Final approach for both is Fremont > Fostoria > Findlay.

I'd trust MapQuest on the TIME estimate - I think Google must be planning
for a long lunch stop!

Either route will get you there; and as long as you're not traveling in weekday
rush hours, Cleveland is "crowded" but not impossible to drive through.

A couple cautions:
*WATCH* the Interstate signs - Cleveland has several "Look-Alike" routes >>>
Interstates 80 (Ohio Turnpike) and 90 - (from northern PA and NY) - they are
seperate and far apart in the east, then combine on the Turnpike in western Ohio.
BOTH I-80 and I-90 are referenced on signs near and in Cleveland.
Interstates 480 and 490 - http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif BOTH in downtown Cleveland!!
Try telling the difference on a sign at 65 mph!!
Interstates 71 and 77 - again - BOTH in downtown Cleveland!
Easy to read them incorrectly at speed.

And - Please - Everyone - Drive SAFELY!

Ohio will have EXTRA State Troopers out & about ALL weekend ~
*Watching* for speeders!!
Five over the posted limit is usually OK - TEN and over and they
usually wanna "talk" to ya!

And be CAREFUL in Work Zones!!
Ohio tries to clean them up for Holidays and reduce or eliminate
lane closures ...
**IF** the reduced speed signs are COVERED with black baggies -
normal speeds are allowed ...
BUT if the Work Zone Speed Limit signs are showing -
they are INFORCED! ~ *Even if* there isn't a "worker" in sight!!

Troopers ride in "marked" all-White or all-Golden/Copper cars;
AND - if the weather is nice - there will be a couple "Bears in the AIR" -
State Troopers flying small AIRPLANES and checking speeds on the Interstates
and the Turnpike - you'll never "see" him till it's way too late!! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif
Sheriffs ride in all-Black "marked" cars;
"Local PD's" can be in anything - some are NOT "marked".
Turn-Right-on-Red is allowed (after a FULL Stop) unless posted "NO Turns" at the intersection.

Have a Safe Trip!! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/wink.gif

I saw the 2 mile difference and the different routes too but didn't notice the suggested speed limit. That must be where they get the extra hour or so.

Thanks for the tips!

... but didn't notice the suggested speed limit.

The Mapping Sites don't openly suggest or show "suggested speeds" -
those averages are from me dividing the total miles by their estimated times -
gives overall average miles per hour.

The Mappers DO try to calculate the time based upon their understanding of the
allowed speed limit on each small section of the route - dunno how they factor in
things like traffic lights or Stop signs.

For sure MapQuest does NOT figure in any gas or potty stops!

Keep a photocopy of everything you send (so you can bring it with you just in case), AND put a note that you need the pass by the 28th, they're sometimes quicker than others when they know it's a big deal from what I've heard.

I *think* you want to come to the Dawg Park on Monday, May 28 to pass out
literature for your "Dachshund Races" ??

Seem like it otta be A-OK with all of us. After all, if't for the Dawgs!! ;)

Dunno what the Parks Department might say ... but then they don't really have
to "know" about the literature.
Maybe Carrie will remember if there are any "rules" about advertising on Park Property.

Are you a Hancock Dog Park MEMBER? (I assume you have a Wiener-Dawg or two.)
