A few more weeks!!!

I am so frigging excited!!

----------------------------------

A few weeks ago I noticed a bus kiosk plastered with a poster with the lettering "Apolo" on the top and a pic of some guy.....It was Apolo Ono, the shorttrack speed skater!

A few days later I saw "Bode" - Bode Miller the downhill skier!

So far those are the only two adverts I have seen for the games.

I love the Skeleton, luge and Bobsleds. Short and long track speedskating, hockey and ski jumping! Super G and all the other skiing events.....
The biathalon ROCKS but we don't get to see enough of that..I even enjoy CURLING!!!

I hope that we get even coverage of all sports.

------------------------

And I want to toss out a special "thanks for the memories" for
Eddie the Eagle! The Brit bricklayer who made me laugh, the Jamaican Bob Team who make me scream, Cathy Turner who made me tough and the 1980 Hockey Team....they made me proud.

-------------------

Two and a half weeks?

I can hardly wait!!!

We'll get some (most likely all of Canada's games at least) of the coverage of Curling up here but then again that's because curling is like some kind of weird cultural thing in Canada, and yes if I had to I could sort of explain the basics of the sport..I'm looking forward to the hockey (both men and women) and the figure skating.

LOL, It's darts with rocks. ;)

And If I could find a woman who could sweep a floor that fast, I'd marry her in a heartbeat. :D

ack - I love short-track. It is the most insane sport imaginable. I remember first catching it at some wierd hour on espn-8 or something like that. I was hooked.

Richard - forget the BBQ - I think I'll jump on a plane right now and come down and join you in watching the games. We seem to like alot of the same events. :D

I guess I've seen enough of the mainstream stuff over the years - I love the smaller sports that have been relegated to the cable markets.

We'll warm up with the loooonnnnngggg skating events the first week.....I love the fact that the STS is the last week of the games......close out the games on a frenzy.

It's like taping knives to your shoes and running around the kitchen in circles....

Well, since Byron got a motorcycle so you could come to the BBQ can you bribe him with something else? :D

I watched REAL SPORTS on HBO last night.

Bryant Gumbel had a last-word kind of sign-off last night...

In it, he hinted that the Winter Olympics were crap and just a vehicle to boost the February TV ratings....he also alluded to the the number of black athletes entered in the Games were comparable to the number of blacks at a GOP convention.

At first I couldn't beleive that someone would blatantly critique the work that these people do just to get to the Games...

I love the stories of the cross country skiers from the Middle East, Jamaican bobsledders and all the other oddball participants.

It took me a minute to figure out that some outspoken nitwit can't help but
lash out because he couldn't pack his bags for an Italian vacation on the company's dime.

Of course he'll end up with footage about some athlete that competed in the Games later on....you know.....for his show. Ratings being as the are!

I'm watching the opening ceremonies right now. Fantastic!!! Go figure. A 9 yr old girl sings the Italian anthem. What a remembrance that will be for her. Richard, did you see that famous Italian singer carrying the folded flag??? Please...wipe the drool off your face. :D

Look out! Winter Olympics are headed my way in 2010. They will take place about 2 hrs. drive from me and there is construction going on all over the place :)

That girl's rendition of the Italian anthem was gorgeous. I love other countries' anthems. I can't say I like ours much :X

I watched the opening cermonies twice. Once on CBC and once on NBC (CBC guys talked way to much and well Peter Manbridge was kind of annoying, not that anyone other then fellow Canadians will know who he is.) but they were cool, can't wait until the closing ceremonies when Vancouver gets to take over for the last half of the ceremonies should be interesting to see what they do in comparison to the Italians.

On another note...first hockey game starts today. :D

Twas not dooling....she was beautiful tho..

The gal that sang the Italian Anthem lip sync'd it....No GRAMMY FOR HER!

LOVED THE FERRARI...

What was with the Parade of Nations?

I recognized MOST of the songs-they play all the time on the only radio station I get in my office....nothing but 80's rock and roll.

I thought the kid that won the Snow Board Gold did well during the medal ceremony....I was waiting for some Gen X exuberance.... ;)

Me too!

I have to say.... I was ashamed of the music selection my fellow Italians made for the parade. I know what the intention was though.... they wanted to choose "safe" music that most people knew. They could have done without YMCA IMO.

hehe

I can't wait to see the Hughes and Miesner girls perform.

Yeah, what was with that? Our friend has a son at one of the local high schools. He said the guy that put all that music together graduated from one of our local high schools. Why in the world would a guy from Chicago Suburb, Midwest, USA being putting together the music for the Parade of Nations at the Olympics that are held in Turino, Italy? I've heard more people comment on this....so I think it's pretty obvious that he screwed up.

Terry thought the Ferrari was a neat touch too. :D

Bodi who?

And drat for Apollo. :(

Way to go Flying Tomato! Now if I could only remember how to say that in Italian...... :D

Oh, and I really don't like cocky athletes. The US guy (from Texas) who won the speed skating - don't remember his name - 3 1/2 years ago he decided he wanted to skate in the Olympics. Now that he won he's saying this has been a life long dream. How does 3 1/2 years translate into life long? He's another cocky one I don't like, probably why I don't remember his name.

The Flying Tomato on the other hand, was humbled by the whole experience and I loved his interview after he won. :)

Bode Miller and Daron Rahlves made HUGE mistakes by using the skis they did.

Ohno did do the right thing by going on.......A crash involving the other racers may have gotten him into the next round.....

I thought about that guys comment too....He was an in-line skater before-and they do compete for world championships in that sport...so maybe he was confused....I do think we all watch and say, "I can do that....." ;)

Oh and what was with Yoko Ono??

Still riding on John's coattails??

I watched most of the opening ceramonies on a Canadian station. The US stations had a tape delay. I loved the big moon and the big sun at the beginning and the dancing trees - they were funny. I also loved the people who moved around and created a skiier. That was cool. I wasn't sure about Yoko Ono either. I watched the lighting of the olympic flame. I don't know who actually lite it though. They said it in French and I don't know French.

That's all I watched. I thought it was pretty good.

So far, Bode's been a disappointment. But he has a few more runs so I hope he can do better. The women's ice skating is doing awesome. Several NH girls are on the team and have scored.

I always want to run a marathon when I watch the olympics. They're all so inspiring (as I sit on my couch and eat pretzils).

There is a thread on one of the boards just now about the worst pain you have ever suffered. Well, if I see that Chinese figure skater's knee-twisting, split-performing, barrier-crunching fall just once more! Do they have to keep showing it?

I don't know about her, but I can't walk properly at the moment!

24/7 is a bit much. :D

kk,

Years ago an american football player had his leg snapped when another player hit him. THAT was pretty nasty.....

The other nasty thing that I remember from sports was the gal that won the Singles Women's medal in Salt Lake. She took off her shoe and her foot was really deformed from how tightly the skates were laced on her feet from childhood..

That grossed me out! :(

I cringed, then applauded the lady from China who landed so hard on her knee last night. I stayed awake to see her complete her performance. I am so in awe of these athletes who have worked so hard to be where they are.

I am enjoying the Olympics so much!!!! :)

I saw that & was really suprised she actually decided to go back on! But wow they won silver :o

My favorite event is definately hockey. I watched every game of Canada's women's hockey & can't wait til the men start tomorrow :D
I love the winter olympics

Men's Hockey tonight (in the years past the Hockey always started before the games even started!

LUGE!!!!!!

I would love to try skeleton once!!!!

Who was the American skater that called himself a diva and made the comment about cocaine and booze?

MORON!

RICHARD

I read about her getting money together to compete! Hopefully the purse strings will open!

Indeed!

She only took up the sport quite recently though. All her training was towards Vancouver in 2010. It just all came together for her now. She is just lovely!

Her boyfriend, who competes in the same sport, didn't do so well today. I hope it doesn't cause problems. ;)

I don't understand why anyone that has won a gold medal would run back to the states before the games end.

Mr Tomato Head was on the Jay Leno show a few days after he won...

I would stay until the Torino Police Department escorted me to the airport.

-----------------------------

I also loved the excuse by the snowboarder who did the trick and crashed.

5 minutes after the race?

The wind blew me over.

24 hours after the race???

I did a trick and fell....But, I blame the spectators, I did it for them. ;)

--------------------------------

And Mr Shani Davis.

Months before the Games?

I'll skate in the pursuit!

A few days before the pursuit race.

I'll skate for myself, no one helped me get here, so I don't owe it to anyone else.

I wonder why they call it an Olympic TEAM??

I guess you missed the start of the Daytona 500 then Richard.
Two Olympic medalist snowboarders, Hannah(she's from Vermont!) and Gretchen waved the green flag to start the race.
Jay Leno was there too to drive the pace car!
I'm sure that the medal winners will be back in Italy for the closing ceremonies. :)

But then us Canadians would have been so sad because the Curlers didn't get through...and the fact that the Candian womens rink is from Calgary makes it better, home town girls...then again half of the Canadian team trains in Calgary...hmmm

Who's televising them 24/7? I don't know how many times in the past week that I've tried NBC, USA, CNBC, and MSNBC to find no Olympic coverage of ANYTHING. I guess maybe I should see when the programming is on rather than just try random luck.

Any Googler's out there? Their google logo has been changing daily with different Olympic drawings. Today the two O's are two curling stones. :D :D

In ending......

I hope to god that the Olympics become more 'amateur'.

Joey Cheek donated 40K of his prize money to charity, for his gold and silver medals.

It was reported that his donation inspired a Canuck to take 10K out of her personal savings (and american gold was worth 25k, silver 15 and bronze 5)
and donate it...so far there has been over 400 k donated to that same charity.

The American hockey pro were ticked because they had to take care of their hotel rooms and travel...that distracted them from playing well!

Oops, I forgot that those same hockey pros thrashed the Olympic village in Nagano after they lost....

And after the Tomato win I got tired of seeing the same film clip of him asking how many babes he could get with it....If he used a little imagination he has his medal... ;)

Poor Bode is gonna be celibate for a while and Poor Linsday will always remembered as the gal who did the trick and lost the gold. Sasha crashed and burned, then Ono made me feel better - He acted like the bronze in the short track final was first, second, third and fourth place.

I love the Olympics, it's the 'characters' that bore me..

We are simply lost without the Olympics! I knew regular TV was awful, but that fact has just been majorly emphasized since the Olympics are over. There is NOTHING to watch on TV! Tuesday night there was an awesome Nova on, but that's it since Sunday night. I think I need to take up a hobby or something to get me away from the TV at night...

...oh, maybe that's why I'm feeling so crappy lately - Olympics withdrawal. ;)
