Evidently Chad Knaus didn't get the message last year. The #48 crew chief has been escorted from the Daytona International speedway for rules violations. Were the fine and points deductions last year not enough notice?

5 points for leading and a pretty good finish....I'll take it.

---------------------------------

I was pretty jazzed they started the Busch Race with the B-1 bomber-but I missed the start of Sunday's race-What flew over???

This is a ? that has bothered me for a while....

Winston bowed out of sponsorship because of the furor of smoking- But Busch still sponsors Nascar racing..

The way I figure it-
It takes longer to kill yourself with a ciggie than it does driving drunk..

Plus, why can't the Busch brothers cash in on a sponsorship deal?

 ;) :D

Yes, it was a very good finish. I was standing up hollering "Go, Matt!" I wish he could have pulled it off. It was a good race.

I saw Carl Edwards last night on a late night talk show. Can't think of the host's name. Its that Scottish guy. Anyway, he did really well on the show and seems so nice and has a good personality. He and the host had me laughing. Love Carl!!!

I turn up the sound really loud during the Nat'l Anthem, so I can get at least a little buzz off of the planes flying over......

And I am always in awe that we can do that.

Congradulations to Bill Lester and Bill Davis Racing. Bill Lester becomes the first african american driver to qualify for a NASCAR race since Willy T Ribbs in 1986. The difference this time? Bill Lester is a top rate driver who actually has a shot and is more than a diversity figurehead.

Kudos to Waste Management and BDR to giving him a chance in the cup series.

Hehehe..yes, we have to have someone to pick on, Anna and you are so much fun to do that with;) :p

Richard, I absolutely love the fly overs. They give me chills when I'm there in person. I'll be thinking of you everytime that they have a fly over now..lol. One of these days I'm going to have to go to an Air Show. I bet that is really cool!

I just want to add that Bobby Hamilton has announced that he has cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. He will be going through radiation and chemo. I pray that all will be ok for him.

GO, MARK!!!!
GO MATT, CARL, GREG AND JAMIE!!

I am a "Roushketeer"!! :p ;)

Robi,

Actually, Do not go to an airshow......

Think of a whole day of chills and adrenaline-think of your co-workers/family having to listen to you talk about it for a week afterwards.

The worst part of it?

Watching from the ground and thinking about what it would be like to fly, just like that. :D ;)

Yep, I'll take that 2nd place finish for Martin!! Made me happy :D . I sure did hate that Carl Edwards had such a crappy day. Geesh, I was getting aggravated. Then Bobby Labonte! Man, I almost felt like turning the stupid tv off. Then Matt Kenseth had something go wrong but he recovered somewhat so I can live with that.

I'm happy for Anna and Mark cause I know that they think Kasey is a little cutie. Yep, even Mark thinks he's a cutie...hehehehe :p

  Grrrrrr, Brandon (my son) is going to Bristol this weekend! Ohh, I'm so jealous!!! All week long I've been telling Alden that I wanted to go and today Brandon calls and says "Guess What?". LOL...That little brat! :p ;)

He's taking our car, our radio and headphones, our nextel cup seat cushions, my ticket pass holder thingy, our Mark Martin Flag, my camera, our binoculars, even asked if we had had any good martin shirts and hats he can borrow, but is he taking me....NO!!!!

I'm so happy for him. I know how much it means to him to see Mark Martin race again. Especially since this is his actual last year..lol. Brandon is so excited and happy and Alden and I got the biggest kick listening to him. That boy is so wound up! Of course I told him that I was not speaking to him for awhile now. I need some time to get over the fact that he would rather go with his girlfriend and not his mother :p ;) .

If he gets any good pics I'll try to post them.

Go Mark Martin!!!

Ad me to the jealous list!! I just told Ralph about a week ago, someday, I really want to go to a race at Bristol. Someday....

Amy, you really do have to go sometime. So far it is my absolute favorite track and probably always will be. I just love it. You can SEE everything and if you miss it you can see it on the Big Screen thingy...can't think of what that is called..lol. For me it's major excitement!

Well, Brandon is on his way home and he said it was an exciting finish. He predicted before he left that Kurt Busch would win  . I hate knowing that he is on the road after being up since 4am to get there and then heading straight home. He was actually going to try and make it to work  . He works midnights. Hmm, do you think he will just call in;). I hope he got some good pictures for me.

And..once again I was hollering at the tv(I'm such a goof) when Kurt was right on Matt's butt. I kept saying..."Don't you do it! Don't you dare bump him"...LOL. Knew he would do it. Aww, thats Bristol, Bump and Run, Baby!!

Also, got a kick out of Jeff Gordon losing his temper..lol. I'll bet the crowd was booing like crazy when Busch won and cheering like crazy when Matt spun Gordon out. I"ll be sure and ask Brandon about it. It reminded me so much of the first time I went to Bristol and saw Dale Earnhardt bump Terry Labonte out of the way and won the race.

Hmmm, I think I'm a bit addicted to NASCAR...LOL

RobiLee
03-26-2006, 07:48 PM
Yes, I did. His name was Paul Dana. So very sad. I might be wrong but I think he drove for the Rahal/Letterman team.

Lady's Human
03-26-2006, 07:52 PM
Didn't see the accident, but evidently he failed to slow for a car spinning on the track at Homestead and rear ended the other car at 200+ MPH.

A sad day for the IRL, and all of racing.

He drove for Rahal/Letterman, and Buddy Rice and Danica Patrick (his teammates) were withdrawn from the race in the afternoon.

Corinna
03-26-2006, 07:58 PM
I just did heare the guy he hit is going to be ok and is in hospital still. Carpenter? something like that.

Lady's Human
03-26-2006, 10:48 PM
Here is a very revealing (and somewhat sad) article on the accident at Homestead:

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/columns/story?seriesId=1&id=2385343

The jist of the article is that Dana got the ride because he was an excellent spokeman and was able to land sponsorship in a series where sponsorship, not driving skill, determine who gets the ride.

Gordon was fined $10,000. What do you guys think? Do you think he should have been fined?

Lady's Human
03-28-2006, 07:09 PM
I don't think they should have fined him for the push, as it happened in the pits.

If something had taken place on the track, they shouldn't fine drivers either. If it happens while under caution or on pit road they should just pull the driver's license for the rest of the year.

Cinder & Smoke
03-28-2006, 11:29 PM
I don't think they should have fined him for the push,
as it happened in the pits.

But with How Many MILLIONS of Fans *watching*??
:(

Problem with "fines" is they really don't have much deterrent effect on a
multi-millionaire driver.

Sitting out a couple of races  might change some attitudes for the better.

What brought NASCAR into millions of living rooms started with the 1979 Daytona 500. Everyone was snowed in, and fans and novices got to watch an incredible race, a race that had bumping, banging, and Cale Yarborough and Donny Allison fist fighting at the end of the race. No one had a problem with that in 1979, and I dare say the only ones who REALLY have a problem with it now is NASCAR while they're trying to build a corporate image.

Drivers are going to get into each others heads on the track. Just like scuffles between linesmen in an NFL game between plays, as long as it doesn't get out of hand, who cares?

As long as it's fisticuffs in the pits post race, let boys be boys. My problem is when they take it out on each other on the track. At Martinsville and Bristol, it's part of the race and no one is really going to get hurt. At any longer track, a driver using his car as a weapon needs to be parked immediately, possibly for the rest of the season.Fines don't mean a damned thing when it's a 10K fine for a driver who made $130K for finishing 22nd.

RICHARD
04-04-2006, 06:48 PM
Now, onto the real racing........no more bumper cars for a while! :p

Tomorrow is a special day and unique oppertunity for my family...

Before my brother's death, he won a chance to participate in the Petty Driving Experience. Unfortunately, he never got that oppertunity. When my parent's went to collect his personal things from work, the guys he worked with gave my dad that certificate to drive at the Petty experience. He asked me to go along, and I am doing the ride along expereince.

While I would give up this experience to have my brother back, reality just won't allow that to happen. We are making this a family trip trip to Michigan International Speedway (with my mom, sister and Jasmine going along as spectators) to remember my brother by doing something he loved. When he was in high school, he worked at a local oil chance place, and used to go with the guys there to help in the pits at the Findlay Dirt Track. He loved cars (espically Trans Ams). One of my best memories with my brother was going to my first NASCAR race, a truck race in Kentucky. I'm sure tomorow will be a day to remember and apart of him will be with us.

Boogity, boogity, boogity...Let's go racing boys!!!!

Why would I want to get Men's Health? ;)

Do you ever read the weekly power ranking on Nascar.com? The editorial comments crack me up. The are so random and generally have little to do with anything, but I love it.

A few excerpts from this week:

Carl Edwards: He is on the August cover of Men’s Health. It is hard to tell what glistened more: His teeth, his abs or the tears of the girls who saw the magazine.

Kyle Busch: Report: Kyle Busch narrowly edges out Tony Stewart as driver least likely to appear on cover of Men's Health

I'm easily amused, but the whole list is here (http://www.nascar.com/2006/news/features/power_rankings/06/27/daytona/)

Some NASCAR observations....

What's worse?

Getting rear ended and losing a race or getting rear ended by a student driver the next day with nothing on the line?

Danica,

Stay where you are....Indy cars don't trade paint.....I can hardly see your reaction when Jeff Gordon does the P.I.T. manuever on you during the last laps of a race...

Talledega Nights....

I am not a Will Ferrel fan....but I am going to hold my tongue until I see the movie.......

Rest easy fellas, she said tonight she not going into NASCAR just yet.The
38 races per season is more time consuming that she wants to commit to
right now. She's still a newlywed and wants to devote her off time to
family.Loves racing, but it's not her whole life.

Again, I have to reffer to the Power Rankings on Nascar.com...

Kasey Kahne- I really hope Danica Patrick enters Nextel Cup. She'd unseat Kasey as the prettiest driver.

Richard, maybe it is time I move to California!!

Liz, it has nothing to do with women driving in NASCAR. It has everything to do with Danica driving anything. I've listened to her whine to her crew on the scanner in Texas about people racing her too close, (2 years in a row, same whine different race), I've heard her trash Janet Guthrie and Sarah Fisher on the radio. I just can't stand her attitude, when she really hasn't done anything (given that she has some of the best equipment in the paddock).

If Erin Crocker, Debbie Renshaw, Sarah Fisher, or any other female driver came up through the ranks in NASCAR or another racing series, WINNING (which Danica hasn't done since she was racing Go-karts), I'd have no problem with her driving in any series. Danica was made by marketing, not talent.

Uhhh, HELLO! Carl a whiner...oh, please...who is the guy always crying about the give and take issue.....WAAAAA!!!! I have to say that I question the character of someone who actually likes a driver that so blatantly causes crashes and doesn't care who he takes out. First he did it to Matt Kenseth in Daytona and now at this last race. I just don't understand why Tony thinks no one should race him. Why does everyone else have to do all the giving and he does all the taking. The man constantly cries about it.

He wiped out any hope that Carl might have had at getting in the top 10. I'm actually ticked off at Carl because he didn't do more than he did. After Tony did what he did Carl had nothing else to lose and should have completey wiped Tony out for good just like Tony does to everyone else.

Yeah, you're right...I'm really pissed off...lol. I absolutely HATE that guy. Right now I can't even bring myself to talk to anyone who is a Tony Stewart fan :p

I think you said it perfectly, Amy. Don't make Tony mad or he will crash you out of the race. Did you really think Mikey would say anything against Tony, Anna? I've read several articles about how Nascar and the tv folks always favor a few certain drivers, one of those being Stewart. I think there is some truth to that.

Now, since you are downloading video clips to show me that tells me that my last post must have hit a nerve. Sorry about that...but hey, you are always baiting me. This time you caught me in a bad mood and I BIT. :p ;) :D

Nah, Tony doens't put people out of the race...may ruin their day or give them some problems, but he hasn't totalled anyone out!! No different then the racing that has been done for years.

The race broadcasts have been lousy since ESPN got out of the game. Hopefully that will change next year, as Dr. Jerry Punch and crew will be back.

I'm sick of endless coverage of junior, even though he's in 25th place and sliding back, and other drivers who get the same treatment. Last night Mark was on a tear, and they didn't mention him ONCE until he had fallen out of contention due to contact. Don't show how he made up 30+ spots in 55 laps, don't show the contact that screwed up his car. Just keep showing Junior.

I can last the rest of my life without hearing "boogity boogity boogity" or any other BS catch phrases. I wish we had an MRN station in our area so I could watch the race but listen to the radio broadcast.

My favorite way to watch the race is to have it on TV, and the computer logged on to TrackPass on Nascar.com It costs an about $4/month, but I can listen to the drivers radios and watch the leaderboard with lap times and speeds. Don't miss anything for commericals and can see when people are moving through the field quicker then the scroll on the TV....well worth my $1/week!!

DITTO! It is no different on the radio either. I was listening to it in the car on the way home and not a word about Martin. Hubby called and told me how far he had moved up in such a short bit of time and I couldn't beleive it. I swear on the radio they never seem to go past the fifth place driver. Heeelllo, what about all the other drivers!....LOL

Amy, this is exactly what we do! Brandon started it and after he moved out Alden signed up on our computer..lol. It drove me nuts at first because we dont' have a tv in the computer room and alden would be going back and forth. I just wanted him to sit down and watch the race with me. It wasn't long before I was in here at the computer also. I think we spend more time in here checking things out...lol.

Tony had a decent night 40th to 18th isn't too bad...but it wasn't enough. They just couldn't get the car quite right. Oh well....pressue is off he can go out and have some fun and win some races.

In the meantime...Go Denny!!!!

(Personally, with the 10 in, I'd rather see anyone OTHER then a Hendricks driver win it! It would be nice to see a first time winner (sorry not really routing for Kenseth either), and if Happy could sweep both seris that would be pretty amamzing.)

I'm just so happy that Mark Martin made the chase that I don't even think I care who wins it..lol. I really really want Martin to win, but I can handle seeing Kenseth win it again;). Ohhh, I wouldn't mind seeing Jeff Burton win it either. I've always liked him too. It would be very cool to see Harvick sweep the whole thing. I pretty much like all the drivers that made it in...oops, strike that, I'm not much of a Gordon fan :p .

Did you know that Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson are the only 3 drivers that made it last year to make it again this year and that those 3 drivers have now made it into every chase race? That is pretty cool  . That is some awesome driving talent and teamwork!

Ohh, how I wish Alden and I were heading to New Hampshire like we did last year. I'm like a little kid when I get to see them race in person. I think it is so exciting!

I LOVE NASCAR NEXTEL CUP RACING!

I was happy to see Mark make it. With this being his final year and being so good all year, he deserved it.

I don't know if I understood a comment made on the post race last night, but I swear they said if Jeff Gordon won, he would be the only driver to have both a Winston Cup and a Nextel Cup. Am I wrong, or didn't Tony already do that? Maybe I misunderstood the comment.
