Randi passed the puzzle on me yesterday (Tank you Randi ;) ) so I've racked my brains to find a proper, witty, etc. sentence in English! (I could write something in Spanish, but that would give Randi too much advantage!!! :D ;) )

SO ... here we go!

Nita

Hi delidog! I've sent Sirocco a PM an hour ago, telling about the missing puzzle and I was waiting to send my guess - also an E.
I didn't because the puzzle wasn't up and running and Sirrocco went offline just after. :(

sirocco

Here are the rules:

1. You may only guess one letter at a time.

2. After you have guessed a letter, you must wait for another player to guess a letter before you can go again.

3. The host of the game responding to a guess does not count as a turn. Should you choose a letter, then receive a response from the member host, you must wait for the next member to guess a letter.

4. One point will be awarded for each correct letter, 2 points for vowels.

5. Only six misses are allowed in the game.

6. If you wish to guess the phrase, send it to me via Pet Talk personal email. [This is accessible via the 'PM' or 'Profile' buttons on any of my posts.]
DO NOT post it on the forum If you wish to guess a letter, post it on the forum.

7. You must have submitted a correct letter to submit your solution. Unlike letters, if you submit a wrong solution, you are disqualified from continuing in that puzzle.

8. The player who correctly guesses the phrase wins the game. If no one has guessed it correctly after six misses, then the player with the most points wins the game.

And here is what you win...you get to create the next puzzle. (Should you win the game, and do not care to host the next puzzle, you may pass your puzzle play to the member with the next highest points)

Here is the puzzle: Note: There is double spacing in between all words.

---- --- ------ - --- -- -------- ----------,
--- ------, - ---- ---, -- ------ --- ----:
--- ---- -- ------- -- - ---- -------------
-- --- -------, -- --- -------, - --- ------- -- --- ----:
--- --------- -------
--------------
---- --- ----------- -------- ----.

-. -. -----.

And the letters to choose from are:

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWYZ

Good Luck!

sirocco

WOW! Cincy'sMom... Late but not least ;) ;)

You won!

The answer to the puzzle is:

When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
the reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

T. S. Eliot.

From "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". The musical CATS was based on this book! It's full of good poetry, and very funny, and I like it very much so when Randi offered me the opportunity to start a puzzle, I immediately thought of it, but it was difficult to find a suitable verse for this purpose (they were all quite long!)

I hope you've enjoyed the whole game, and didn't find it TOO tricky (it was tricky, though!) so CONGRATULATIONS to you all!! :D :D

And Cincy'sMom, will you host the next puzzle?

It feels to me like there is a bit of puzzle burn-out going. Is it just me, or would a moritorium on puzzles for a week or two work for people?

Former User
04-10-2002, 07:47 AM
I think a little break with puzzles would be in order...What do others think? I won the puzzle not so long ago, but it took all my efforts, and I didn't feel like hosting it then and haven't participated on this puzzle at all.

Cincy'sMom

Iam guessing all the puzzles are of the same format? Maybe if people are feeling burnt out on this typw we could try others? For example, i have a Dog training book that has a list of Presidents and their dogs. We could do a match game or something.

Just an idea....

delidog
04-10-2002, 09:26 PM
cute idea cincys'mom!!!! or maybe like we did before...guess the animal???? something like that i think...like your idea....though i still love the animal quotes...there are so many good ones!!!!

Cincy'sMom

Maybe we could leave it up to the winner as to what kind of puzzle they would like to do...then there is a variety and we still get the great quotes! If you guys want I will put up the President puzzle tomorrow ( I left my book at work today :( )
