...between a Husky and a Malamute? I asked my mother today, and neither of us has any idea.

A Malamute is MUCH bigger, heavyer set, with longer hair and doesn't come in near as many colors as sibes. Their eyes are also almost always both brown, no blue

Mals were bred for heavy pulling, sibes were bred for speedy pulling. Sibes were also bred to be with the human family, and are said to have a more people-friendly personality than the mals, but I don't know, I've met some pretty friendly mals. I've heard mals tend to be more of a one-person dog. As mentioned, mals are much larger, and have brown eyes. There's a great site called Everything Husky that carries tons of info on all the nordic breeds.

Malamutes are substantially larger. Mals were bred to pull an extremely heavy load long way at a slow place. You want to move your whole village, you take a malamute team. Siberians were bred to pull a moderate load at a faster pace.

Malamutes tend to be dog aggressive, particularly to the same sex. Their temperment is in general more stand-offish than the typically outgoing husky.

A purebred malamute can not have blue eyes. They can come in any color as can a purebred Siberian. They are both double coated.

I have both in my yard.

Heyoka, my purebred mal, weighs 130 odd pounds. My biggest siberian weighs 65.

Muskwa is a purebred siberian.

Well, I knew the difference but I sure am glad you asked because we got to see Heyoka and Muskwa. Gosh, they are gorgeous! I love Muskwa's coloring.

I just wanted to add that I get alot of comments about Tori being small and how they always thought huskies were much bigger than that. I think people often think that a Malamute is a husky.

I know other people have posted pictures also, but I wanted to also! :D
This is my sister's Husky Yukon:

She weights about 60 lbs, she's on the tall side for being a husky.

These are my friend's Mals, Loki and Chinook. Loki is 130lbs and Chinook about 110lbs.
This is Loki and Sierra along with a kitty friend

There is acctually quite a big difference. Huskies are much lighter built and smaller. Malamutes have a heavy build, and they are more hairy. Huskies come in alot of varities of fur and eye colors.

Huskies were bred to be fast, and mals to be strong.
