Cagney has developed some really weird habits. He randomly stops eating his dog food for days at a time. When he does this I will feed him a little bit of rice (the ONLY other thing he will eat) but he basically starves himself for up to five days then all of a sudden he will start eating his food again. I don’t understand why he is doing this. He is doing it again this week, this is the third time in the past few months. Does anyone have any ideas on what’s going on?

It makes me so sad to see how much he has aged and changed. I hate the thought of him not always being with me :( He’s my little boy, I don’t even know who I will be able to survive with out him. *sigh*

I would be taking him off to the vet for a full check up, the vet will be able to give you advice and to see what is wrong. Lovely photos BTW :).

First of all, Cagney is gorgeous! You should post pics more often, I don't think I've ever seen that pretty boy before! :p

How old is he? My Toby is just turning 10 and he does the same thing occaisionally. I try giving him chicken and rice, chicken broth, gravy etc and he refuses it all, then a couple days later he'll start eating as normal. But other than his arthritis he's basically healthy, so I don't know why he does it. They do just LOVE to worry us though don't they?!

Sorry I can't help more, I hope you get it sorted out. Give Cagney a hug from me! :)

I have heard of dogs going off their food for two or three days, but five days seems like a long time. Does he behave normally otherwise during that time (drinking, eliminating, playing)? If it is becoming more frequent I think I probably would mention it to the vet.

Those pictures really are cute. :) I love the third picture, I am definitely trying to kiss that nose through my computer screen.

Cagney is such a handsome man. I love seeing him. I'm nobody to give advice but I'm thinking maybe he's experiencing some arthritis issues. How old is he now? He sure doesn't look old but maybe some sort of aches and pains might be troubling him. A trip to the vet sounds like a good idea. Maybe the vet can shed some light. Please keep us posted on how he's doing and try not to worry too much if possible. I know that's easier said than done :) (((((HUGS))))) I'm only a PM away if you need to talk :)

Awww, Cagney is handsome and I just love his expression. I would definately call your vet and have him checked out. I don't have any idea what it could be but your vet would probably know.

Nope, Unfortunately we are going out of town for new years so we will have to book later. He did start eating last night though...which is good. He's staying with a dog sitter that works at a Vet Clinic so if anything is wrong he will be taken in. We wont be that far away and it's only two nights so if he stops eating again I'll probably come back.
