I'm not sure why you can't find anything. If you search those things in google lots comes up

there is a school program that lets you explore a cyber frog, pig, rat, fish, etc. There is no real guts or anything, its all fake :)

This info might make you change your mind of working on the real thing. The high school I went to has VERY strict policies since its Catholic. Our school only bought frogs used in tests & the pigs came from slaughter houses that happened to find them inside the adult pig. IF nobody bought them for educational purposes, then they would have all been tossed into the trash.

The way we saw it was that the animal was already dead & we were recycling the animal for educational purposes.

Our school also did 1-2 cat(s) a year. The cats were donated from the shelter (its a no kill shelter unless the animal is totally wild or aggressive beyond help).

In my opinion I would have never touched one of the animals if it was being recycled. If the animal was raised for us & then killed, NO one in our class would have touched them.

I mean NO offence in my post. But the sofeware is a good idea for your school :)

That is great that you are not disecting a frog. I am really happy about that. But it still makes me upset that your class is. I would try google for the cyber frog:)

Good luck on your essay! I chose not to dissect in biology class too.

We used that software! It is cool! In 7th grade we disected a frog, worm, and crayfish, THAT was cool! They had all been dead and floaring in fromeldahyde for like 3 years though :p

In biology we dissected a Frog, Fish, Giant Grasshopper, Crayfish and a worm.

This year in Anatomy we have dissected a sheep brain and next week a sheep eye :( For our final we have to dissect a fetal pig. The pig is actually the only dissection that I would "agree" with, the piglets are all stillborns or died soon after birth. The rest were all raised and then killed for students to dissect :( Its all very sad but sadly my teachers have never let anyone do alternative things and I would not fail a class over something like this. I LOVE animals, don't get me wrong, whether I participated in the dissection or not these animals would still be being raised and killed.

Good luck on your paper though! That program sounds really neat, gee, I wish our school would do something like that instead!

I don't think it's necessary for all biology students. But for pre-meds and Pre-vets in college, well, until they develop the Holodeck there's no real alternative to learning anatomy. Having said that, the origin of the animals used is important too.
