Paxil's cancer is back....

I'd really like to put a string of swear words in here, but I don't want Karen to ban me so &&^%$##^%*&&*)&)(* is all I'll type.

I was laying on the floor with Paxil tonight and found a lump on her side. It's about the size of the tip of my thumb. Upon closer investigation, I found another one on her back leg.....right where the mast cell tumor was removed in February. It was a grade 2 tumor and due to the location they couldn't get a clean margin. The wound would have been too big to close if they had taken any more tissue. I was told there as a good chance it would come back within six months. It's been 10 months so I thought maybe we had beat the odds. No such luck though. Dang it.......

Paxil seems fine. She's skinny, but she always is and she can't have any fat in her diet as she is prone to pancreatitis. She's eating well, playing and acting like her normal self. I swear those two bumps were not there last week.

My vet is closed until Monday. I'll call him first thing Monday morning though. We'll beat this again. While you are praying for Nebo, could you add my girl to your prayers? Thanks.

Praying with all my might for your beautiful Paxil. What a very special girl she is and we all want her around for a long, long time. My own prayers were answered recently when Star underwent excision of a small, hard mass from her hip, last week It was benign, thank God. Prayers for Paxil..hopefully they're just benign.. I've been through the exact same thing with Bear. We removed a large mast cell tumor (also the aggressive type) where they didn't manage to get full margins because of the size, and we played a wait and see game. Sure enough w/i about 8 months I found 2 more lumps. I think I invented a few curse words when I found those so believe me I understand the need. Feel free to PM me if you need to just vent. The good news which might give you some hope for Paxil is that those 2 new lumps were benign. Over the past 4 years he's gotten about 10-12 over his body, all benign so it is possible they might not be cancerous even with Paxils history. Fingers and paws crossed.

Sorry to hear about Paxil's new lumps--hopefully your great vet can work some sort of miracle. My Thandi's were too large to remove with any great success (on her spine) so we just kept her on benadryl and cemetidine for another year and she did great until the end. :(
