This is Spike, a 2yr old GSD. Only have a few mins on the internet so not enough time to tell you his story, but his family are looking to rehome him due to family problems and he may be coming to live with me! :)

Here he is:

Isn't he a handsome boy? I'm meeting him Wednesday. So excited, hope everything works out! From what his Mommy's told me so far he seems well socialised (he's been brought up with 4 kids and friendly with other dogs) knows basic obedience and loves EVERYONE, he sounds like a great boy. Will be taking my camera Wednesday so more pics/update then!

More Spike:

Quick question for people with GSD experience; is there anything health/tempermant wise I should be looking out for? I know GSD's are prone to hip dysplasia, anything else I should be looking for? Thanks, I'll let y'all know how it goes!

Amy :)

I have no GSD experience but just wanted to pop in and tell you that he is a very handsome boy. I hope it works out and you get to take him in. Maybe its just me but he looks a bit skinny so give that boy an extra meal from me please;)

His Mom said pretty much the same thing to me. Quote from her email:

he's a bit on the thin side, but he eats well so I think that's just Spike ...

I won't know until I see him, but from the pics she's sent me he certainly seems healthy, Toby gets pretty skinny sometimes and he eats like a horse so maybe it's just his metabolism ... it can be hard to tell from the pics anyway, so I'll know better on Wednesday ... can't wait!

he's gorgeous!! i wouldnt worry about his weight, he looks good!
its better for him to be on the leaner side, most GSD's are like that

Spike is going to be 3 on Jan 17 (13 days before my birthday!). It's nice to know his history and be able to see his parents. I don't know much of Toby or Squid's history, but Spikes current family have had him since he was a puppy, so they know everything about him :)

I have been emailing back and forth with his Mom all day, she is so devastated to be getting rid of him, definitely not your average 'got no time/cant be bothered with him anymore' case. She is going to miss him so much, and has already requested weekly updates/pics.

Wish Wednesday would hurry up and get here ...

He is so gorgeous! I really like the last picture with the stick. His weight looks good to me. I wish I had that problem with my dogs (not gaining weight) ... but I have to worry about them getting fat :(

I am in love! What a cutie. Duke is part German Shepherd and he's got some of the hip problems. Actually, they started at a pretty young age, too. I think he was around 3. But, he didn't start needing meds until around age 6, I believe. I know they're very good protectors and watch dogs. We'll look forward to more pics and good luck!

First of all... OMG He is gorgeous!!!

When I first got Sierra at 6 months she was skinny and never seemed to gain weight no matter how much she ate, what kind of food... etc. After speaking to my vet and watching how she did for a little while longer (she was still young) they decided to test her for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, somewhat common is GSD's.
Here's a link:
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_exocrine_pancreatic_insufficie.html

Her blood work came back normal, so I just kept on feeding her and feeding her.... then we adopted Buddy, and he was skinny (only 70 lbs) so we were spending just as much on dog food with 2 skinny GSD's in the house as we were on food for ourselves!!
Eventualy Buddy got to an ideal weight for him of 90lbs, you can still easily see and feel his ribs, but a GSD on the lighter side is better then an overweight one!! Then there is Sierra.... she's 4 years old now and people still ask me if she's sick because she's skinny.
My vets are happy with the way she is because ... that's just the way she is! :D Her metabolism is just fast!
The one thing GSD's need is a job!! They need to have something to do!
Even if it's going for a walk with a pack filled with water bottles!
My problem was that when I adopted Buddy I didn't give a job, so he found a (not so nice) job. Protecting our yard with his life. :o As good as that may sound to an extent, he went overboard. He will not allow other dogs in our yard, and our family and friends are fearful of him because of his actions when they are in our yard. We have been talking to behavioralists and are still working on fixing the problems I let happen. :( Bad Angie.... Bad Girl!! :o
Good Luck!! Wednesday is almost here!!!

Clare, it was 1am here when you posted! It's only been wednesday for 55 minutes! :p

It's now nearly 9:30am here, his Mom is driving down and it's a pretty long drive so we're planning to meet up at about 1:30. Will let you know what happened as SOON as I get home!

:D

Ps: One more pic (can anyone fix the eyes for me? I suck at that!)

Spike!
