:( I know, you guys are probably like, "who's Lily?". I usually don't do this, but Lily is my sister and her husband's new fawn/white English Bulldog puppy. You all might remember them giving away their Border Collie/Rottie/x, Mercedes, a few months ago. I did find a great home for her with a family that I'm friends with who have an ACD boy named Rex and 5 acres of property. She's happy now, in a much more active home with enough space to keep her entertained and another active dog. Well, a few weeks ago, Jason (my sisters husband) heard from a co-worker that their friend or relative (or something) in the bay area had a 12 week-old female Bulldog puppy that they needed to place in a home. This person is allegedly a "good breeder". He took work off one day and drove down to get the puppy (and paid $1800), without asking my sister -_-... my sister is already the ONLY caretaker of Bentley. Jason plays with him for 30 minutes when he gets home from work at night, but my sister brings him to Obedience every week, cleans up after him, feeds him, buys him everything, walks him, crate trained him, etc. Jason was the one who demanded they give Mercedes away because she was bored and destructive. My sister was upset that he got Lily behind her back, but the "good breeder" said they weren't able to keep another dog at that time when my sister called them.
Lily has been soooo sweet and healthy since they got her. She had a problem with bladder control, and she leaked for a while, but my sister was working on her training which helped. I only saw her twice and did not get any pics, so I didn't want to introduce her here until I got a few to post. She's really adorable, with a piebald face and she seemed to have great structure. Lily always acted very calm and subdued for a puppy, so my sister asked about that when they brought her in to the vet yesterday. They discovered that she has a SEVERE heart murmur. The vet wanted to euthanize her right then and there :(... but my sister refused and brought her to UC Davis vets, where she is right now. She has friends there, because she's going to UC Davis to become a nurse, and they're all doing the best they can to take care of Lily. It's been a very hard week for my sister... she and Jason seperated yesterday, also. We've been trying to call Lily's "breeder", with absolutely no luck. I'm pretty much convinced that they KNEW Lily had a bad heart murmur (after all, vet's do check that during the puppy's first vet check-up!) and sold her hoping that a new family would be too attached by the time they discovered the murmur. Please keep Melissa and Lily in your prayers. I'll try to get pics of Lily from her to post up, she's a wonderful little puppy and she deserves so much better! It kills me, because I talked to Jason, and the rest of my family, so many times about how horrible it is to support BYB's and mills and to take that risk on an unhealthy puppy. :(
