My husband's office christmas party is December 2nd. It is being held at the Safari Lodge at the Calgary Zoo. They are having a casino night with a mardi gras flavor. The dress is semi-formal. So now I'm wondering what the heck you wear to something like this. Anyone with any suggestions?

Whoa! LOL I'm not sure what you would wear to that - it's like there's 5 different themes! ;) Sorry I don't really have any ideas.

Having been to semi-formal events at the Calgary Zoo before I would suggest a cocktail length dress (or just below the knees). Having amardi Gras theme gets you away from the "little black dress" so you can go a little crazy with the colours :D But be sure to wear comfortable shoes because you are going to be standing most of the night!

Maybe a leopard print dress? ;)

I would just wear a dress or two pieces...where the skirt or dress is just at the knees or a little below...and, color is a definite! :) A really pretty purple could be cool...rich colors, though...for the mardi gras theme. Sounds fun! :)

Thanks everyone for your input. I now have the outfit.

Black Velvet 3/4 length tiered skirt
Black Velvet tank top
Black Velvet shawl
Black beaded necklace and matching earings
Will wear high heeled boots as it is going to be -20oC and strappy sandals just aren't going to cut it in the snow and cold.

When I get all dolled up tomorrow will snap some photos to show you how it worked out.
