Inspired by kitty nicknames, I thought of the silly names we give the various positions our cats assume. Some of Ritz's

Tummycat-on back, feet up, waiting for tummy rub

Tortellini cat - curled up in a circle, head often tucked into back feet, asleep

Parade float kitty - sitting down with all feet "hidden" - looks like a parade float going down the street with the skirt hiding the wheels)http://www.netsnapshot.com/users/6974/images/th_PJeU3cCoBQIAAEx5Ixk_6974_1.jpg

Stealthpuss - hiding somewhere under or in something, waiting to attackhttp://www.netsnapshot.com/users/6974/images/th_PJ58i8CoBQIAAClLfog_6974_9.jpg

Fuzztail - scared puss - puffed out tailhttp://www.netsnapshot.com/users/6974/images/th_PKW8QsCoBQIAAClXY3c_6974_14.jpg

Cuddle mode - curled up next to mommycat at night

Yoda cat - flattened out, attack mode with ears "flattened out"

Skunk dance - the sideways jump attack (grew up on a farm and saw this behavior in skunks when they were threatened

Leonardo does what I call his BEAR RUG pose. He lays on the back of the rocker-recliner with a hind foot and a front foot draped on each side and his head straight out, chin down. His tail sticks straight out behind him. Just like the pictures of old bear rugs you see in the movies.

Love this thread!

I've heard the pose you call Parade Float as Meatloaf Kitty -- I think it was from one of Kilban's cartoons in the 60s or 70s??

Going to have to think about this. Got such giggles picturing the poses as you described them! Hee hee. Great!

And, of course, there's:

http://home.swbell.net/lgsees/elebator.jpg

Elebatorbutt

or, for those who don't speak kitty, elevator butt.

Whew, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who refers to the cat as "meatloaf"....

And Elevator butt is priceless! ROFL

There's also

Prairie Doggin - up on hind legs getting a better look

Sphinx pose - similar to 'meatloaf' or "parade float kitty", only with two front feet out in front. http://www.netsnapshot.com/users/6974/images/th_PJ@IxMCoBQIAAClOlb4_6974_11.jpg (or "how do you like my new french manicure, mom?")

Contortionist cat - kitty cleaning the "privates"

Razzberrie puss - kitty with part of tongue sticking out

Kodiak bear - up on back feet, tagging mommy with front paws as she passes by. (we refer to it s being "yakked" by the cat

Our Vinny (a fifteen pound longhaired brown and white mackerel tabby) likes to stuff himself into the doorway of his crate and be a cotton ball cat! When the inclination strikes him, he'll walk along the piano keyboard and become a concerto kitty. He also likes to disguise himself as a warm, fluffy striped puddle on the floor, always where you least expect it!

Sara, wasn't it you that referred to your kitty at play as "commando kitty"? That one was good too...

Scooter's mommy referred to the "bowling pin" imitation...I love that one too, always picture 10 tuxedo cats sitting in pyramid formation, looking like furry bowling pins :D

There is also

U-stretch when they first wake up, stand up and put all feet close together and stretch their bodies into a u shape

Bunny toes - when they stretch their back feet out and extend all the toes (I call it bunnytoes because it reminds me of Bugs Bunny's feet)

Then, there is always, the modest, ladylike, ...."Proud tummy" pose

Jazz has a position where she's on her tummy, front legs straight out in front and back legs stretched out in back, with her back feet turned outwards in a curl. I call it the "clothespin pose" because that's exactly what her body looks like!

LOL :D :D Lots of great pictures and position names. Our kitties do keep us entertained don't they? :)

Here's another one of Peanut in Flatso mode. She prefers this position and is in it quite often.

I think this is a pretty common position for kitties, but I can't think of a cute name for it. I know someone here can help me out. :) Peanut does this quite often when she's batting at the water from the faucet. It's like she's too lazy to actually stand with her hind legs too. Maybe for stability since she normally has one paw under the faucet.

Aquaerobics, perhaps?

Water paw-lo?

In-sync?

Kneeling at the Delta?

tuxluvr
04-03-2002, 04:45 PM
And I know what you mean about that "pose"....too lazy to stand up....this one always cracks me up because it looks like Ritz either tripped over her carpeted lair, or just decided playing standing up on all fours was just too much trouble , so she just hangs her two front feet down and bats at the mousie!

I'm not sure which amazes me more, how funny the term "elevator butt" is or that you were able to FIND a haiku about it!!! :D:D:D:D:D

I have to agree!

tuxluvr, I laugh at that picture of Ritzy everytime I see it. It does look like she just tripped and is saying "what was that big thing in my way?" :D

krazyaboutkatz - those pictures are a riot! Sunny is so very feminine and dainty, and that monkey thing, just exactly what is Storm trying to do there? LOL:D

Wow, how great that so many others know about elebatorbutt!! :D My personal faves (which I see at my home all the time) are meat loaf kitty and bear rug kitty :D :D Stump is a master of them both! And let me add "stretchy cat" which, as everyone knows, is that post-nap full-body stretch!

Aptly coined by tuxluvr, here is Marius "working the room"! LOL LOL It just drives me nuts when they do this! This is a definite call for a belly mushing:)
So, I guess you could say this is the "working the room" pose! :D

Karen, that's more or less how Casper looks too when he is expecting to get a belly rub. Marius is just soooo cute in that pic!!! And it always cracks me up how they bend their paws. Kitty is an expert on that, sometimes she can look so funny, like a dog  ;)
