to be fair, they were not comparing like with like, babies are only babies for a couple of years, pets are pets for as long as 20 years or even more.

If they include todlers, young children and teenageers in the survey I'm sure the amount of money people spend on their kids are a lot more than the amount of money they spend on pets :D
