View Full Version : My Butter is DRUNK!!!

Logan

I just called to check on him, as the vet told me to. They said he is too "drunk" to come home right now, but otherwise is fine. Poor Buddy (that's our nickname for him). He doesn't feel well after having his teeth cleaned (and hopefully gotten his bad breath extinguished). :( :(

I'm feeling sorry for him now. I'll put him in my bed when I pick him up later this afternoon. They said to come for him around 5:30. :(

I say so many bad things about him. Now I feel guilty. He will have shorter claws and better breath. I will love him to pieces and probably get bitten in return.

Oh Poor Baby - don't take him home too soon Logan. I did that with one of my cats and I couldn't keep him from banging his face on the floor - poor thing got a bloody nose and upset me so bad.
Glad he's comin out of it - did he have any extractions?? Last time I took Spencer to the vet for a teeth cleaning, the vet pulled all his teeth out - that's a nightmare I wish I could forget:(

Clean teeth, short claws.... and a little dopey? Maybe he'll let you cuddle with him before he gets "Completely" sober? Hey, it's worth a try.
Don't feel guilty WE ALL KNOW how MUCH you LOVE him!!!!!

Hope ya feel better soon Butter!

Oh Butter will just love the extra attention. I don't believe it is painful to have their teeth cleaned - just leaves them groggy. I am sure he will have wonderful breath. I brush my two kittys' teeth about once a week. They rather like it.

Right!

Well, maybe "drunk" is a good thing!! When he was neutered, he spent 5 days on my bed, letting me love him. Then, I really got to know him.....and his claws and teeth!! LOL!!

Purrley, as far as I know, no extractions, just a good cleaning for the bad breath!

I know he will be fine.....but I'll feel better when he is at home.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought, "Merciful heavens, hope he's not a mean drunk!!!" Can you imagine? (Or would you even want to???)

Hey Butter...it isn't very often you wake up from a drunk with better smelling breath! Hung over...too drunk to come home and still she wants to cuddle with you. You're one lucky guy!:D :D

Hope everything went well with Butter - sure it did! He will love it on your bed, getting spoiled rotten!! Remember to take some pics!

This may be the time to admit we took advantage of the situation when Fister got back from his bladder stone treatment. We put him on our bed while he was all doped and gave a really good brushing - even his tale! We are normally not allowed to! :D No loose hair after that! A few hours later he fell out of the bed, but we were prepared for that and had put some blankets there. He was determined to go and get a bite to eat, but it was a long and winding road to the kitchen - hilarious to watch! The floor is rather slippery, so I had to hold his paws together while he was eating. He was all back to normal in the middle of the night - and had to tell us of course! Cats are tough!! :D

Butter and Helen are snuggling......in her bed of course, not mine!!! He is awake, but the most pitiful sight I have seen in a long, long time :( They said a little water, but no food until tomorrow. I can see why. Poor boy wanted to jump off of the bed, and just about landed on his head!!! Thank goodness for lots of blankets and Mom's loving arms. He'll stay on the floor with plenty of places to rest, until tomorrow. :)

Forgot to say that the vet thought there was a sufficient amount of tarter to cause the problems with his breath. He was given a shot of antibiotics since they go up into the gums to clean them out. The only thing I forgot to ask is what his weight was. Doesn't matter.........poor fellow, he is solid as a rock and now I know he "topples" over very easily.

{{{Butter}}},

You poor confused kitcat. Things will be better tomorrow, and your 'Mommy' and 'Sister' will have lighter hearts then, too.

So glad you are triumphantly home from the white coats, sweetheart!

POOR BABY!
I'm glad Butter is doing ok even though he's not up to snuff yet. He probably won't be too hungry until all the drugs are out of his system any way.
Hope he's back to his furry self soon.:)

LOL!!! Don't you worry, he'll be back sooner than we want him to be probably. Since he is the way he is, I think Helen and I will enjoy it for tonight, cuddling with him in a way that we don't usually get to do. :) Bless his heart......we love him so much, just wish he could understand that eventually.

Thanks for all the good thoughts everyone. Our Buddy will be fine...I'm sure of that. In the meantime, if I'm not here, I'm hugging him.

Logan:)

Poor little Butter Boy. You let your sister Helen and Mommy snuggle with you and keep you safe and warm. You came through it like a trooper Butter. Before long you'll be back to your feisty ole self!!:) Love and hugs and kisses to our Precious Pet Pal Butter from Sandra, Star, Cody, Oliver, B and Squeekers!!

Awww, poor Butter. Yeah, lucky Logan and Helen!!! :D

Enjoy it while you can, but you never know, he might just be a little nicer when he comes out of it. Seems when cats go through traumatic things they really do know where they are safe, and they seem to appreciate it afterwards, even if it is ever so little. My mom and dad went to Arizona for the winter one year and left the cat home with my brother. The two do not get along, but the cat tolerated him, but just until my parents were back. Before they went, the cat was completely aloof and wouldn't let anyone touch him or jump up on my mom's lap. After they got back, she wasn't even expecting it and the next thing you know the cat wanted to cuddle. Not for long, and a day or two later he was almost back to normal, but every now and then he'll jump up and want pets now. Hopefully Butter will soften just ever so slightly too. :)

And I know how you feel bad about him being wobbly. I moved from Green Bay, WI to Chicago, IL. I talked to the vet and he agreed that it might be better to knock the cats out for the trip since it is about 3-3 1/2 hours long. Again, with Peanut it was no problem. She was in her carrier and slept the whole way, but evidently the dosage wasn't enough to put Tubby out. He likes to climb all over when in the car, and look out the windows and such. So even though he was half doped up, he still tried to climb all over, but kept tripping and stumbling. I tried to get him to settle down on my lap, but that only worked for about 2 minutes. before he was back at it again. Oh, and meowing the whole way too. I had never put him in a cat carrier, and I only had one, and Peanut was in it, so I couldn't put him in too to keep him safe, so what I had tried to prevent was just made worse by doping him.:( I felt so bad for him but he made it through just fine, and when Peanut woke up she was a little disoriented because of the strange surroundings, but otherwise ok. I don't care where I move from now on though, I won't do that again!

Here's a picture of Tubby (back in 1992) letting me know he doesn't want me to move to Chicago without him.

And no, I didn't take him down there in the trunk. ;) He got front and center seating with me. :) Oh, and this was also before he was all doped up.

(The pink hat is my niece! She's a teenager now! My how time flies!)

Ohhh, little Butterkins, I hope you know how much you are loved and can enjoy all of the attention. See, a little lovin doesn't hurt at all.

Having your teeth cleaned isn't any fun - for us two leggers either! And no one puts us in their laps and loves us..........
after we have our teeth cleaned.

Feel better real soon.

Poor Butter! I hope he feels better today.

Logan don't worry we know that you love him :D and I know that it is hard when they don't let you cuddle them as much as you would like to!

Butter, at least the vet won't expect you to floss until your next visit! :D

I hope you are feeling better Butter Boy and maybe giving Logan some quality cuddle time. I know it won't last but it would be nice if you would just humor her a little. She's really a nice human and she loves you so much!

Our Butter slept most of the night, right where he started, on the foot of Helen's bed. He did wake me around 5:10 this morning, but not quite as enthusiastically as usual. :) He ate some breakfast, went outside for about 30 minutes, and is back in, sleeping again. He looks MUCH better this morning.

Thank you for being so sweet and concerned for him. He appreciates it and I do too!!! :D :D :D

Sure did enjoy holding him last night!!!! :)

It's probably time to get Frisco's teeth cleaned - then I might have a chance to hold him too:D :D but I'll get a signed contract that they won't pull all his teeth out:(

Amen to that, Chuck! :D

I had a little adventure this morning while I was on hold for a customer. I went back and found my original posts from January of 2001, when I had just let Butter in my house. Remember, I thought he was declawed? WRONG!!! I sure did have a lot of support from all of you all, way back then.

Reading those posts, I realized that I miss Genia. Has anyone heard of her or from her recently?? She was so supportive of Butter. Come back, Genia!!!! :(

see attached picture...;)

How's Butterkin's little heady head this morning?? You know, I'm really REALLY in desparate need of taking both my boys in for some tooth cleaning too. But 2 cats!! I don't know if I can afford it just now:(
But I tell you what, Scooter's breath just about makes me pass out. He's got this eye watering, wall paper peeling odoriferous aroma!! Yikes! Poor guy!

Wolflady --

It appears that Scooter went with you on your wine country adventure?

I wonder if you visited my favorite winery? It is toward the top of Napa Valley -- Dutch Henry Winery. Dutch is a dog who attends to the vehicles of visitors -- meets them and escorts them inside. Then if no human employees are there Dutch has a bell he jumps up and rings to bring someone to help the customers.

It is also VERY good wine although it has gotten too pricey the last year or so. :(

OMG! This sounds like a very neat place to go! How cute! I'd be all over that dog! LOL LOL I've never been to this one, but you can guarantee that I'll make a point to visit next time we go on a wine outing!:D :D
There was one that we stopped at where I was glued to the cat sleeping on the couch more than I was to the wine! LOL

Yikes, this post made me re-live Reece's not so long ago teeth cleaning. Logan, I hope you weren't as irrational as me. I drove the poor vet techs nuts calling them all the time crying for about a week until his appointment, hehe. I picked Reece up at 4pm and at around midnight he was almost all the way back to normal. The next day he was 100%. If Butter isn't 100% by now, I'd check with your vet. Maybe it affects cats differently though since they're smaller. But then again Reece is just about 10-11 lbs now.

Anyway, glad thats all over with. I know the feelings of guilt and worry all too well :)

This is what I tell people (among other things) at the shelter who put they want to declaw on their application. If they don't look shocked and horrified and change their mind about declawing after all the stuff I tell them, I won't adopt them a cat :)

Don't worry, Aly, he is terrific today, albeit a bit on the lazy side. That's fine. He's eaten, had water, done his business, even been outside for about 30 minutes. He is splendid!! I haven't even had the opportunity to find out how sharp those newly trimmed claws are!! :) :) That makes me happy!!!

We are having thunderstorms right now, so I'm happy he is inside sleeping, actually. Now if I could just get Honey to come in from the rain, all would be fine!!! :)

LOL!!! Oh how I was hoping for a quiet Tuesday!!! :D

Honey is in now, but only because I propped open the storm door, and found her lying on the rug in the laundry room. I enticed her with a little mozzarella cheese, and now she is drying out on her favorite mat in the living room.

It never ends around here. :p I'm sure there will be possum hunting later this evening. We had raccoons and possums 3 nights last week that I know of, so maybe Tuesdays aren't the charm anymore!!!! :D

So glad to hear that Butter Boy is shaking off the sleepies! While you're still able, give him an extra hug from me! And I can't wait to read what THIS Tuesday night has in store for Logan and Crew!!:D

Wolflady...I checked out the Dutch Henry Winery! My kind of place! Good wine, magnificent scenery and VERY doggie friendly. They even have a link to their "doggie pals" page. The two doggie greeters are Airedales and give tours to both humans AND canines!!! Here's their pic.!

"Finally, our supporting cast of airedale terriers - country Buggsy and her city cousin Teddy - serve as the official greeters of the winery and are more than happy to give your own well-behaved canine companion the "doggie tour!

Check out the site

and click on the "Dog Dish" link....Hmmmm, I forgot I'm on the Cat board!;)

Oh, how cute is that, tatsxxx11!!??? :D

I'll have to put that on my list of places to visit someday. I think it's really neat when people incorporate their pets into their businesses, even if it's as little as having a cat laying around the antique store that doesn't even open its eyes when you start cooing to it and petting it. :)

How cute!! Thanks for posting that link, Sandra. :D That is a place I must visit!!! I'm sure I'll get the opportunity sometime soon, since I have been converted into a wine connisour since I moved here! LOL LOL
