My cat Pepper was diagnosed with megacolon last year in November. He is only 5 years old. He's taking lactulose two times a day and will have to continue this for the rest of his life. The only other alternative is to have the vet perform an operation. Does anyone know more about this problem? Should I continue to give him the medicine for the rest of his life or should he have surgery?

Poor Pepper, :(
Sorry I don't have any advice, but there are a lot of people here and someone probably will. Give Pepper a hug and pat for me :) .

Hi krazyaboutkatz and Pepper! This is a link to an excellent vet info. site. In the Cat section...Megacolon.....lots of info. about different treatments is offered. This vet seems confident in recommending surgery as a safe alternative when medications are not working. Have you seen a specialist? I would defintiely talk it over with your vet. This is a chronic problem, and, if you are not having success with medications, definitely talk it over with your her of him! Love and hugs to dear Pepper. Keep us updated, ok??? Sandra
