We took Shadow to the vets again today...I'm not sure if I posted when she went last time but basically a couple of weeks ago I took her in to get her toe checked out, it was really swollen and the toenail was cracked all the way down the side. She was given pain killers and antibiotics, well her antibiotics are gone and it is still pretty bad and really infected.

We took her in today and they gave her some different antibiotics and we're supposed to give her those for 10 days. When they're finished she needs to go back in to see if surgery is required to remove the infected problem toenail. Please send some healing vibes to Shadow, we really really don't want her to have to go through surgery, we want it to heal up on its own!

Thanks guys! It still doesn't look any better and she is constantly licking it, I really hope these antibiotics help, and I can't believe they didn't give her pain meds this time, it obviously bothers her...

I find Polysporn helps a lot on infected paws.

Soak the paw in warm water. Dry the paw off witha clean towel, don't let her use it. Put LOTS of polysporn on the infected area. Put proper gauze on it, wrap it & use proper gause/first aid tape. Put a loose sock on that leg (up to the elbow), use the gause/first aid tape to tape it to the leg. Then to the same thing with a 2ed sock thats even looser then the first one.

The 2ed sock is ment to be changed easly when dirty & the first sock makes sure the gause stayes clean.

Change the gause & polysporn twice a day until it starts to get better, once the infection in controled & is only a little red & raw, then change it once a day.

If the dog keeps trying to chew on the socks, get a cone. Its better then loosing the toe.

Thanks King2005, We did wrap it in gauze with Neosporin (?) and then put a wrap around it. We will definately try what you described, thank you!

Not a problem, I have a funny looking example I'll post. Many have lol at it & said it worked VERY well.

I had to use it ALL the time with my old guy, his paws were horrible during the winter months.
