Goldfish Problem

I have a problem with my goldfish, he has a weird "worm like" growth out of his side, it looks like the scales are moved and a thin white 'wormy" thing is growing out of his side, this is the second time I have seen this and it is one of my favorite orandas. Anyone have any ideas??? I need help, I don't wanna loose him, I lost the last one, does it sound like a parasite? or a cancer?

Sounds like an anchor worm. One of my goldfish had them once but he was so sick anyway I had to put him down. I'm not sure how you treat anchor worms, I hear you are supposed to pull them out but maybe there is some sort of parasite treatment that kills them.

Thanks, this has happened before and I pulled it out, but this one has me worried, as he was a feeder before, this is a oranda......
